hello, im a transplant from team chevelle. i thought i would post this over here because it seems like there are a lot of small block guys over here and i want to get as many opinions as i can. im building a 350 .060, forged 3.48" crank, forged 5.7" rods, hyperetic pistons@10.3:1 static comp., dart iron eagle heads w/215cc intake runners 2.05/1.6 valves, hooker supercomp 1-3/4" headers, 3" 2-chamber flowmasters, team g single plane intake, 750hp carb, and a ultradyne cam: 280/288 adv.; 247/255@.050; .595/.576 lift, ground on a 108 lobe center. so what do you all think? sound like a good combo to you? i dont have everything yet and am open to suggestions, thanks, chris

It sounds and looks good on paper (well Screen) You can get a demo version of Desktop Dyno on the web.. I would see if you can find that and run these numbers through it.. It is a great program and can produce some good "real world" numbers for you.. If not I believe the software is relatively cheap to buy and you can use it for any other builds in the future .

just my opinion

It will definately make some power, but it might be a bit much for the street. This going to be going to the track I assume? I have the desktop dyno, but am using a different computer at the moment, if you email me (i need reminders, my brain is getting old) I can run the numbers for you and give you an estimate on power. Looks like it will be a good combo.

I would not run a performance engine at 0.060" over unless the block was sonic tested and verified that the cylinders will have at least 0.200" left after boring and honing. thin cylinder wall will fex and cost more power than the extra few cubic inched got you. It can also lead to cooling problems.

Also, for the power you'll be making, you're pushing the limit of hypereutectic pistons. I'd go forged for the added safety.

You have mail!

I ran the desktop dyno on your engine and it looks pretty good. Horsepower topped out at about 500 at 6500rpm. In the desktop drag simulation this combo in a 3600 pound chevelle with a TH350, 3500rpm converter, and 4.11 gears, running slicks could bust out a 11.70 @ 116mph. Not too shabby.

thanks for running that for me boodle. i haven't had the block machined yet, so if i can, i will only go .040 over. 500hp!! http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif sounds good to me, does anyone have any experience with a cam this big? im just wondering how choppy the idle will be.(choppy is good http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif very intimidating!)i plan on running a dick miller rear suspension set up, with adjustable shocks all around, but as for the trans, what do you think i need to upgrade internally to keep up with the engine. i would like to stay with the th350 i already have. thanks again, chris

you'll need to call TCI or B&M they have the hardened sprag and drum for $300. this is the weakest link in the th350. use wider direct-clutch bushings and 2 xtra sun-gear bushings for a total 4 in the sun-gear.this will help in the twisting or side loading wear that happens quicker in the th350.
good luck!!

Sounds like a good combination. But, I would never build another performance 350. It does not cost that much more to build a 383. You will love that extra torque.

im building the motor using parts i already have. money is pretty tight, im gonna try to do rear gears, trans, and the motor at the about the same time. thats whats taking so long. its just money man, its just money!

be careful with the rear gears if you don't get it right it'll toast on you in a hurry.

im not going to set the rear gears myself, ill take the rear over to the local shop. j&s gear in huntington beach, they've done work for me before, good shop. i was wondering if i should use 4:10 or 4:56 gears out back with a sticky 28" tire?
