Anyone use the AutoMeter C2 gauges?
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATM-7200/?image=large

These Ultra-Lite II's are sweet also..... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATM-4900/?image=large

How about the Cobalts? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATM-6200/?image=large

I'm leaning towards the Ultra-Lites. They're going to be coming out of the pretty $100 bracket and going in a custom bracket in the A/C hole in the center of the dash. Hate to toss that bracket they come with. Maybe I can make it work.

Any issues hooking this type of kit up to a small block? Tips on what to do or what to avoid?
Thanks

Do you have the factory 69 dash cluster with the greenish lighting? You may want to consider the NV or GS Autometer gauges for a better match to the factory lighting. If you pick gauges that use standard bulbs for lighting you can change their tint with colored caps that Autometer makes. I bought the green caps ($4) for my el-cheapo gauges and I like the effect. In the end it's a personal decision, do what makes you happy!

I just installed the Phantom II this weekend. 5" speedo and tach along with 4 2.5" console gauges in my 68. I will take some pics tonight if you would like

Rick, are the console gauges mechanical\analog?

Barry, thanks.
I want to replace all the bulbs with LED bulbs. Preferably blue like the gauges. A buddy did it to his '68 Cougar and it looks great.

Joe,
I went with mechanical oil and water temp. I have never had a leak with a mech oil in yrs and the only set back to the water gauge is a hole in the firewall the sensor has to be pushed through, but after a gromet was placed it looks fine. The volt meter is a single wire and the fuel gauge hooked into the harness.

I have AAW classic update harnesses and installation was simple. Used quick connectors (male/female) and cherry stemmed the wires to each gauge.

I looked at dozens of gauges on the Autometer website, nighttime and daytime views. If you want blue tinged gauges look there and you will get a good feeling of what things look like.

I also found the best prices on ebay Ihavethebestpriceperformance. About $750 for all six gauges. If I would of went with electric oil and watch about 1000 i believe

Rick

Pic quality poor....had to use my 8 yr olds "camera"...my wife has the others.

Joe, I went with the black face Auto Meter Sport-Comp II mechanical gauges. They are plenty bright at night for these tired old eyes, which I really appreciate. I prefer the look of the 'classic chrome' series of gauges (I like the old school look), but the gauge increments in that line are not as precise as what I wanted. I wanted extremely precise oil pressure and water temp increments, not semi-vague hash marks.

The mechanical gauges couldn't be easier to install once you find or make a hole in the firewall. The volt meter is a snap too, as is the lighting circuitry. I was pretty generous with tie-wraps so there is no 'birds nest' of wires under the dash. I also used Teflon tape in all of the appropriate places. No leakage whatsoever.

Some guys avoid the mechanical gauges because they are worried about hot liquids spraying around the inside of the car, but I used Stewart-Warner mechanical gauges for years and never had a problem. I was more concerned about an electrical short or a bad ground rendering the electric gauges useless at the most inopportune time.

I used AutoMeter Sport Comps. The silver surround kinda blended with the '69 factory gauges and the numbers/needles aren't blatently far off so they go with them decently. Plus, the price isn't too bad and you can find a lot of them on ebay cheap just searching for the part number. For instance, Summit wants $350 for the wideband AFR kit but I got a new one off ebay shipped for $250.

Sorry, my camera does a poor job with low light. My good one was stolen from my checked baggage on my honeymoon. Yeah, paying $15 a pop for cheap disposables at a private resort sucked.

those gauges look really great, and seem to fit the look of the interior that I would prefer vs. sport comps (which I will probably get)......BUT, they don't make a 5" tach and 5" speedo. That is the ONLY reason I am not purchasing them. I wonder if there are plans for 5" gauges in the works for this line?

I used the Auto Meter Sport Comp II. They have the basic muscle car look during the day but very bright at night. They dont look too aftermarket or rice burner like.
