I just got my project started for the first time. YEAH BABY! The engine ran great. After about 5 minutes the engine temp was 180ish and then I started to get smoke from the vents. Defroster, floor vents, dash vents. Do I have a leak in my heater core or is it possibly burning off old residue. I thurned it off before I could determine if it would go away. Thanks

I'm afraid its a bad heater core... Check the front floors and inner fire wall for moister. You can double check and if im right, then for now just run the hoses to connect each other.

Skeeter. Yup. Just a couple drops just under the inside heater box. I had to do the loop with my other car when the cable came of to turn off the heat this summer. Just reconnect that one so I can use the same adapter. Oh Well. I was planning on putting in a Vintage Air system any way. Just hoped to wait a while and save the money.

Your lucky you found it now, instead of a afternoon drive with steam up windows:yes:.

It doesn't sound like it was running long enough for the coolant to vaporize and cause steam.
So, I suspect that it was burning off some residue and would stop after awhile.

When I was at Crusin the Coast last week a AMC that was really nice restored ,,,heater core leaked. There was about 1" of antifreeze on his passenger floorboard,,,brand new carpet. Really nice car. He had to bypass his heater core to get back home.
Lucky you found it now.
