I unhooked my oil pressure guage to take out the console for repainting. I then drove to 20 miles to the place thats doing my interior. My car was already a little low on oil, and I figure there was a quart in the passenger floor board when i got there. Smart, I know. My biggest concern is that the motor had a ticking sound coming from the engine by the time I got there. Hard to say exactally where yet. What have I done? Should I just fill it up with oil and drive it back home when their done? Um, the console looks great
Thanks,
Darren

Darren,
Add more oil. Hope for the best. Do not do that anymore. ;)
The lifters clattering is the first sound you hear if you are low on oil. That is not too bad because they will usualy come back fine with a little more oil. After that it can get more expensive.

You are probably ok. I would check the oil and fill as needed but, before you start or drive it you need to plug the oil line (not that you will ever make that mistake again). The sound you heard was probably the lifters.

Check the gage line between the firewall and engine. They get old and crack there, you might want to replace it at this time.
I've seen lots of the original plastic tubes break due to age and heat. Happened on my Camaro and a fiew friends cars.
Stereo installers often break this tube when doing an install, had that happen on a vette.

Thanks guys. I get the car back tomorow and I will fill it up and drive it home. Its not my dream engine, but its fun to drive until I finish the 400 that im doing. Might be a while before I can afford to finish it. Thanks again
