: CRAZY idea, entire 4th gen interior in 1st gen

Ive got this incredibly crazy idea, I've seen people do seats, and ive seen it on a website http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2565383 where a guy did it. Has anybody ever put in an entire 4th gen interior in a 67?

My 67 was frankensteined pretty good in the 70's and already has a '69 dash in it, its falling apart and a terrible job was done. I am thinking about buying a 4th gen donor car and stripping the whole dash, console, seats, seat belts (need those!), and maybe even the wiring harness.

I know the gauges will need alot of work to make them work, I may just use my autometers if I need to. Does anybody know the dimensions? Will it just slip in for the most part or is this gonna be a real headache?

Any thoughts anybody? Here's a shot of what I working with now. Don't mind the console, its home made.

PS. does anybody know if I can use the rear suspension of a 4th gen?

Thanks everybody!

I think it's possible. I've heard of a couple of 1st gens with a fourth gen dash but the one I've seen is actually a fourth gen car with 1st gen sheet metal.

It's been done already. Do a search for it. I cant remember where I saw it but I will look for it, if someone doesnt post a picture before I do.

The rear suspension is coil springs on a 4th gen. The axle is also a 7.5 ? that is not very strong. The only good thing are the disk brakes that will fit on your first gen.

The one I think your thinking of is Adam's 69, car named Illusion. He is here once in a while, username CamaroBoy69, but spends more time at ProTouring and Lateral G.

my question would be, at what point does safety become an issue? Is a complete "swap" of sheet metal even a good idea?

There was a couple of First gens with 4th Gen dashes at the Joliet Il Super Chevy Show this year. Both guys told me the width is good, but they had to cut a lot of off the front of the dash because of how far back the engine sits in a 4th Gen. I would think the interior & door panels would be a nightmare though.

I appreciate all the input guys, I think I may go ahead and give it a shot. I'll probably leave the door panels alone, I would really like to change them but I just don't trust my mechanical abilities enough. I was thinking of doing exactly what adam did with his gauges so that I wouldn't have to put the computer in. Let me know if yall think of anything else to do, otherwise I'm gonna start my search for a donor car!

I have seen both the fourth gen with the early style sheet metal and fourth gen interior/underhood, engine, trans transplanted into 3rd gen. Extensive amount of work in the later modification, but I must say it was really impressive. The shop that did the transplant was a place by the name of Darrens Hot Rods on the South side of Houston.

Here is a 2002 25th anniversary camaro that has been modified to look like a 69 camaro. I personally think it looks better than the new camaro. It was at the Hotrod Reunion in Bowling Green KY in june.

wow... why would anyone wanna put that ugly square dash in a 67 or 68... How do you think this looks square? If anything looks square, it's the 69 dash pad.

That 2002-69 is absolutely incredible looking. I have never been a fan of the 4th gen, and the 5th is soso imo. However, if GM made one that looks like this, I would be first in line to buy it!
