Hey guys,
I am thinking about selling my car (actually wife is thinking this, so she can get her spot back in the garage) and trying to figure out a price. Was told to post in here and maybe get some help.
The car is in no way, shape, or form any thing special. Car stated out as a 6 banger with three on the tree and I built it for a street car.
It has a 454 BB, a 400 turbo trans, and a 9" Currie rear end.
Full rotisserie restoration
Acid dipped / E-coated
Booth painted
New floor pans
New trunk floor
All new exterior sheet metal
New windshield
Original side glass
Ididit tilt steering column
Hurst shifter
New carpet
Original seats - front and rear
Trunk mounted batteries
Some original chrome and some new chrome
Front disc brakes
Rear drum brakes
Brand new tires and rims
Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R 26 X 6.00 R 15 LT Front
Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial P 275/60 R 15 Rear
Jegs spoke rims

It needs a new top, the frame is good and works just a new cover and rear window-well boot.
I was quoted $1500 - $1800 for the job. The other things are the speedo is not hooked up and the wipers do not work.

I don't want to list it and be "that guy" who is nuts about his asking price being way too high or ask to low and then everyone thinks it is a fake add or something is hidden wrong on the car.

I have pictures from the day I bought it till the finish, or at least the way it is now, I don't think they are ever finished. http://s602.photobucket.com/albums/tt107/fordhipo/

Thanks in advance of your opinions and input

Ken

Thats a nice looking ride. Myself the rollbar setup takes away form the looks. It's worth what makes you happy or don't sale.

I actually like the rollbar. But if you think it potential buyers will shy away I'd remove it (if easy to do) and advertise without it.

Come on guys, he is looking for a number. I will throw one out there since no one else will.

$32,500 +/-5K, if it's as nice as it looks and you remove the roll bar.

I am a fan of the ragtops, I own one, but I think by looking at the pics and the roll bar, low 20's. JMO. The body and engine look good, but the roll bar just doesn't work. I wish you best of luck in your sale, the market stinks right now.

Thanks for the opinions so far, really sounds like I need to cut out the roll bar:D. My thinking was part for safety and part for structural support but if it detracts from the value, maybe time to go.

Ken,
The car looks good from the pictures. I think the roll bar limits the number of people who would be interested in the car. You would be limiting yourself to mainly someone with racing in mind not your everyday cruiser type. Do you have the X brace on the bottom of the car or have you added any frame connectors? Hotchkis makes a nice X brace that gives enough room for most exhaust systems and their frame connectors tuck up nicely underneath.

I agree ^ Low - mid 20's in todays market. 30's all day long a year and half ago.
(sans roll bar).

Of course that is for a quick sale. You could always hold out for the right buyer and get lucky. If it is not sold as a fire sale, you can always go down but not up on the price.

I looked at a few more of the pictures, and think the lower end of my original estimate ($27,500) would be a better starting place.
I guess all "Full rotisserie restoration's" are not the same.
It looks like you have well over 30K into it, but mid 20's is probably all the market will bear.
Good luck with the sale.

James,
I know it's hard to have a question come across the right way on the internet but I am asking this as a nice question, What do you mean by

""I guess all "Full rotisserie restoration's" are not the same""

I would like to know what you see and didn't see in the pics. Always trying to learn.
Thanks,

Ken

"Full restoration" usually means every aspect of the car has been back to original condition.
Your car has had alot of work, but not really a full restoration. For example, the floor pans have been patched. A full restoration would of had the complete floor pan replaced, or patches welded in, in such a way as you would not be able to tell.
Full restorations usually cost well over $50k in labor alone.
Here is an example of a fully restored car.

I must say you guys were right about the looks without it. Cut out the bars and put in new carpet, changed the whole look of the car. Don't know if it is just because it's different.

Nice Cig in the background! I have been tempted a few times to let go of one of my cars to obtain a bigger boat. I can't make myself trade an appreciating asset for a depreciating one, however.

Sorry, I can't see getting high 20's right now (maybe couple yrs ago). I think $20k without a top and some of the things not working.

When I'm looking at cars, I am always a little worried when there are things not working or missing. Makes me wonder what else can be wrong and why isn't this person fixing the small issues. Not saying anything about you or your car, just what goes through my mind when shoping for cars.

I think you would be better off to fix everything, before you list to sell. Well done on cutting out roll bar, looks better to the masses.

Just my honest opinion, if thats what your looking for. Remember you've got a great car. Market just sucks (for sellers) right now. Todays $20k cars were selling all day long for $27k-$30k couple years ago. Believe me I know, I bought in the peak:(

The boat is a buddies of mine, mine is behind it smaller and older:D I hear the boat market is just as bas or worst then the car market now good deals out there.

Tony
Yea I have other places to put it for the winter, was testing the market to see what it would bring, cost $20 to list on ebay and if the right price came in, was not going to fire sale it so set reserve for a price I think would be fair.

Chad,
I hear what you are saying, I am the same way and was even thinking that as I was typing the things not right with the car. I have now have the speedo part for the trans to fix that, the top guy can't get to it till after the first of the year, the wipers I was not really worried about because I never drive it in the rain and always had (and even when a new top on ) will have the top down. But a new owner might not share my reasons. I know it's the little things you have to deal while looking at a car, If I told my painter once I told him 1500 times to block sand it like we are painting it black, I can't stand waves in the body work, and the little things like painted door latches or latch pins or over spray under the car.

Thanks for the honest opinion ( and from everyone else). Can't hurt my feelings, wouldn't ask if I wanted smoke blown up my tail pipe
