THe car almost feels as if it is being restrained. ive checkd the timing and its fine, valve lash is fine, and all ignition works great. is there a possibility that cam timing could be a problem? the compresion # are in the 130-140 which as im told are low. also the vacuum is steady at 17. comments
thanx

Need more info. Do you know the engines static compression? What cam is in there? Any other specifics that you know of? If it is stock 350 smog motor with a moderate sized cam, then you could expect these compression and vac numbers. Or, if it is a stock motor, you could have a stretched timing chain.

Retarded cam timing WILL cause lower cranking compression. But how could the cam timing have gotten retarded?
Like Travis said, which cam and what static compression ratio do you have?
ps. Don't rule out transmission or a sticking parking brake if it "feels like its being restrained".
Also - too little total timing advance (ignition timing that is) will make it feel like that too.

sorry but im not aware of what static compresion is. the trans also wasnt hooked up to the vacuum line at the time of pulling the vacuum. i have that hooked up now. this might be part of the problem, my other camaro didnt have vacuum line to the trans and it shifted all screwy and the power wasnt there. as far as the size and specs. of the cam, well we didnt install it well recieved the car in boxes and the cam was already in the motor. no cam sheet either. there is no smog equipment on this engine either. i was told that they could be retarded from the manufacture if thats possible, i guess it could it be on a speical order. we've also checked total timing and its where it needs to be.
thanx for the help
