I am replacing the stock rear wheel studs with Moroso - 7/16" dia.-20 x 2-7/8" long. .480" knurl. I started putting the first one in using a lot of big washers & a lug wrench to pull it through, got it about half way seated & the stud broke into. I think the stock knurl is .460" I was told you could pull these through with only .020" clearance. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

As I found out the same way you did.... You'll need to drill (open them up some) the flanges. You can't press/pull in with .020 undersized holes (mine were .032 under)

But .002 you'd be good.

Hmm, never had a problem pulling them in. Are you aligning the knurls, the knurl on the stud with the knurl on the flange?

Yes, I used a micrometer on them & they are actually .485" which is .005 over what is says on the package...hmmm I don't know what the prob. is?

I aligned the knurls of the stud to the existing axle knurls and used a lugnut backwards, using the flat side and two washers with alot of lube, and pulled the stud into place, 5 times.

I did have to use several lugnuts though.

Greg,

I have tried this a few times and basically you have to drill or ream the holes out to get the proper fit. Moroso will tell you the same. There is too much press fit the way they are made and even though you can get them in if you really want to, it distorts the axle flange too much for my liking. YOu build up that much stress in something and it will crack or break sooner or later.

Do you know what size drill bit I can use to do this?
