Hello,

The top on my 69 Camaro is hesitating when going down.

I have read prior postings about how to add fluid to the motor since I suspect this to be the problem. Most of what I have read discusses using ATF A for the system fluid.

I removed the rubber grommet, could not feel any fluid near the bottom of the hole. I used a paper towel end rolled up to place in the hole. The fluid on paper is not red and smells and looks like hydraulic fluid.

So, do I add hydraulic fluid to top off the level?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dennis

Straw colored hyro fluid is fine. The issue is finding it, that is why ATF is more common.

Thanks Kevin.

I have hydraulic jack fluid, would this be acceptable? If not, do I search on hydraulic fluid (any idea who sells it?) or can I mix the ATF A?

Thanks,

Dennis

If you find a tractor supply or construction equipment repair store you can find Hyd oil. I bought some for my lift from a Case/John Deere heavy machinery shop.

I would not mix, but if you could drain as much as you can out and add ATF, I doubt a little in the lines would hurt.

Search on the top refilling procedure, you have to do it a special way :D

just use atf. it will work fine and it's most likely what is in it now

A word of caution: This is a sealed hyd system so if it's low the fluid had to go somewhere... Take the time to find any leaky connections, ram seals or cracked hoses before just refilling.

X's 2. I'd replace all the hoses at this time.....
