I have an original center console for my 68 convert but it is in rough shape. It has some large cracks and a hole in the drivers side. I want to repair it. I plan on putting something inside to support the cracks so they will not open up again once I have it repaired. It will also be the inside backing for repairing the hole. My bigest problem will be matching the "grain" with my repair. I would also like to know what I should use to fill the hole and the cracks. Can I just use bondo or tiger hair to make this repair? If not what do you guys suggest? I really do not want to buy a new console.
Thanks,

Mine had a couple cracks and I used 2-part epoxy resin with glass mat backing to repair it. For the grain, you might try to find a piece of vinyl that matches and then use it as a pattern from the outside to "texture" the filler just before it sets up. If the filler material is too soft it'll stick and spider web, if too hard you won't get much of an impression.

Btw, the OER interior paint worked great when I painted the finished console.

3M Rigid Parts Repair. It's a professional product used daily in the collision industry. Excellent performance but more coin than resins and cloth.
