View Full Version : Canfield vs Trick Flow 23*
newonad Mar 4th, 02, 02:52 PM Just doing a comparison and noticed that the 195 Canfields might be better than the tfs for about the same money. What do you people think. I've included the flow numbers and if someone could plug these into my combo, i would sure appreciate it.A chart w/hp and tq at rpms would make it a lot easier to compare. looking for more than just peak. THANKS !!!!

CamaroNOTcamero Mar 4th, 02, 03:23 PM you may be on to something
here's the TFS numbers:
445HP at 5500rpms
469TQ at 4000rpms/ 450TQ at 2000rpms
Here's canfeild's number:
454HP at 5500rpms
473TQ at 4000rpms/ 447TQ at 2000rpms
they're a little better in the top end, i'm still dead set on TFS personally.
BigRed-L72 Mar 4th, 02, 03:45 PM Go with the Can`s you won`t regret it.
A single pattern cam would work with those heads too.
1 5/8" will be just fine.
No need for a HV oil pump either.

boodlefoof Mar 5th, 02, 05:05 AM those canfield heads are also supposed to have a lot of horses left in them that can be freed up with some work. I have heard good things about them.
JUNK YARD DOG Mar 5th, 02, 05:22 AM i beleive chevy high performance mag did flow test on several heads and the canfields were right under air flows. from what i have hered from a performance machine shop the valve guides tend to wear out in the trickflows my choice would be canfields the best flowing head for the money .i also think your car would be faster with 15/8s headers unless you are going with the bigger ported heads

newonad Mar 5th, 02, 11:25 AM How about it CamaroNOT. Lets plug in a few single pattern cams (less than 225 duration @ .50) Maybe the Crane 280HR or others?

newonad Mar 5th, 02, 02:01 PM whore??? Dont you have to get paid for that? Seriously, the dyno service he provides is truly appreciated. The advise now saves me money in trial and error later; not to mention the grief of " dont know why my megga cam got beat by a rice burner". Wouldnt that be sorry. Plan twice, purchase once.

Eric68 Mar 6th, 02, 04:33 AM What's the price on the Canfields? When I was building my 383 last winter, the Canfields were a bit more expensive than the TF's - but it looks like the TF's have gone up a little. If I recall they were about $1100 assembled and the TF's were $850 (now $900).
From best to worst in the 190-200cc range - IMO
AFR 195's
Canfield 195
Trick Flow 23*
Dart Iron Eagle
Sportsman II's
etc, etc, etc.

LoneStar68 Mar 6th, 02, 05:06 AM Does anyone know if the Canfields can have the steam holes drilled for a 400 sb? I do know that Canfield recomends a special stud girdle because the valves are not in the stock location.

69Man Mar 6th, 02, 09:01 AM The Canfields are already drilled for steam ports. You can bolt them right on to a 400 block, and they rock!
7ova Mar 6th, 02, 07:49 PM how much for the canfields. what intake volume and chamber size. i'm looking for heads and can't decide between afr 195, victor jr 215cc(they just changed the port and claim 10 extra horsepower in new chp magazine ad)or the dart pro 1 215cc head.
Winch Mar 7th, 02, 03:34 AM Check out www.competitionproducts.com. (http://www.competitionproducts.com.) I have a recent catalog that shows for 200cc they are 699 pair bare and 949 pair bolt-on.
