Looking at a Dell. No serious gaming just home use and moderate gaming. Old one is 7 years old and is slow as molasses in January.

For $699.00
Processor: Intel Core II Quad Q8300 4MB L2 2.5GHz 1333FSB
Memory: 6GB
Hard Drive: 640GB
Video card: integrated Intel GMA

Are any of the following worth the extra cost?

Processor: Intel Core II Quad Q9400 6MB L2 2.66GHz 1333FSB $70.00
Memory: 8GB $50.00
Hard Drive: 750GB $30.00
Video card: ATI Radeon HA 4350 $60.00

Also, after some research I am looking at Vipre anitvirus. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks,

Sounds like a decent machine. Remember that a 32-bit version of the Windows operating system can only use 4Gb of memory though, so anything above that will be wasted.

For anti-virus I've been using AVG. It's free and it works.

Thanks,

For what you using it for , video card is best bet for usable expense.
put the rest of the $$ in your pocket.

Haven't purchased a PC in 8 years - been builidng my own - It's the way to go if you are up to it - not hard at all. The problem with prebuilt like Dell and HP etc is future upgrades - the boxes don't give you room to modify / add on and you are stuck with the self created restore discs when you want a clean install, and they aren't really very clean. I would go 64 bit if I were you - its the way of the future.

Windows 7 rocks. If you get more than 4gb of ram, get the 64 bit version of win 7.

I agree about building your own, but... you won't save money, and you won't get all the useless geegaw software that dell and them gives you. It's still fun though.

Avast is the best anti-virus, and it's free.

Thanks for the input Guys. I didn't think to put in my post but I was planning on the 64 bit Win 7. I'll go with the video card upgrade. I'll look at Avast and AVG antivirus.

I think it would be worth your time investment to look for 3rd party tests related to anti-virus apps, including Avast and AVG.

I agree about the Vid card upgrade. (unless you went out to buy a separate upgrade at newegg.com or something) Great system other than that!
