Hey guys,
Need a little help.......does the steering column boot go on under the firewall insulation mat or on top of it. It looks like it should go under to seal against the floor...I'm just not sure?

TIA :beers::beers:

There is a 2 piece bracket that goes around the steering column that bolts to the fire wall. It will slide down the column and bolt flush to the firewall then tighten the 2 bolts that connects the halves together. It also has a rubber gasket that goes between them.

Then the rubber boot that you are asking about will slide down and touch the firewall. It just covers the end of the column. Really for cosmetics purpose.

Mike,
Thanks for your quick reply. :thumbsup:

So I guess the only way to assemble this is to attach the 2 piece cover with gasket to the firewall (loosely).

Slide the boot onto the column first.

Slide the steering column thru the firewall mat.

Slide the column thru the hole and attach it to the steering box and to the supports under the dash.

I guess at that point you go back inside and tighten all the bolts on the 2 piece cover.

Slide the firewall mat and rubber boot into place?

Boy....I sure hope that mat has some wiggle room to align other items, like the fuse box, e-brake! :noway:

The column boot is designed to rest against the plastic carpet guard. Thats why the boot has the offset lip on it. If you're not using the carpet guard, then don't worry about it. Good luck with the firewall pad, they can be a bear.
Check my signature link, I think I have a pic of what you're looking for. I can't access webshots from work, so I'm not sure.
