I just got my engine tuned the best it has been so far. I have a 327 mild cam, bored .030 over, quadrajet, stock manifiolds, flowmaster duel exhaust, Powergide and 3.08 rear end. The car will spin the rear wheels a little but nothing when it shifts to second. The car has very nice pull at speeds above 60 mph or when the 4 barrels open. Is this typical of what this setup will give me? If I want a better bottom end is a 700R4 transmission the next thing on my list?

A 350 turbo is a vast improvement over a glide in a street car especially one with 3.08s.

If you get a 700R4, Im guessing you will get incredible gas mileage, if thats a concern for you. As far as trying to up the performance, I would suggest a set of headers and a basic exhaust setup with aftermarket mufflers. The exhaust is more of a short term, quick way to gain power, whereas the transmission is a much more in-depth project.

Years ago my brother-in-laws little brother bought a red, '68 convert and then bought a pro-built 327/P/G engine trans combination for it.. Big bucks, even back then...

Anyway, it ran like a bat so this tells me that your setup can be made to run well if it is set up right.

I never did know what rearend gears he had so really can't help you there, but I would think 3.31's or 3.55's would be a good start for a street P/G .. 3.73's can be used but your mileage will begin to suffer!!

Then you might think about making your motor more aggressive, cam/cmpression-wise as well as upgrade the topend...

You didn't post your combination so can't really start b/c you may be there, (in the street range), now?? pdq67

I made the switch from a powerglide to a 700R4. The difference was night and day. I couldn't even squeal a tire unless i was going around a corner. The 327 doesn't have much torque so getting off the line with the powerglide was tough. The low first gear of the 700r4 makes a big difference off the line.
I highly recommend it.

I agree with Greg. If you want to talk slow, I had a PG with 2.56's. Went to the 700r4, huge difference. Went from 2.56 to 3.55, more huge difference.

I went from a PG to a TH350 in my 67 stock 327 with 3.08 gears it was like a different car.I have exhaust manifolds and daul exhaust with the PG wouldnt hardly spin a tire. Put the 350 in with a B&M 2000rpm stall and would spin through first secound and into drive. An eaton posi diff. solved that problem though.Almost went with a 200r4 but decided I dont drive my car much so went with the 350 cheaper to build.
