I've gone through the posts on the vent window install, but I guess I'm dense and don't get it. I have my vent window assembly in, but the front isn't close enough the the door to have a bolt fit through and secure it. Also, the hole in the door is square and the bolt kit I got from Rick's just has normal bolts with built in washers. Another thing is that the long chrome screw i got from Rick's doesn't fit, it acts like it is too small to screw into the vent window frame inside the door. Can anyone help with some closeup pics of the vent window assembly installed? Specifically the door jam area where the two adjustor bolts go and the chrome screw. I didn't tear the door down, so I'm working blind and the screw kit from Rick's just confuses me even more with the different assortment of screws.

Thanks,

Don

You was lucky to find the assembles. When I was looking they were not available.
If we had a picture or a item number we would know more about what your talking about. The hardware for each vent window should include two adjustment screws, one longer then the other, two flanged nuts 1/4"x20 one chrome and one plane, one 1/4"x20x1/2" chrome head bolt, two semi clear plastic washers on about 3/4" in diameter the other about 1 1/4" in diameter and a stainless screw #10x3" long.
If they chromed the front piece after they cut the threads you may need to chase the threads with a 1/4"x20 tap.
When you put the window assembly in the door the shorter adjustment screw should be screwed in to the lower hole of the front chromed piece. The shorter stud part should be pointing toward the front and thread the adjustment screw in more then half the threads. After you get the assemble in the door this screw is easier to screw out then to screw in. The longer adjustment screw goes in the bottom of the window track and screw that in a lot too.
When you get the assemble in the door it may look like it is not far enough to the front but it should be far enough the get the 1/4" bolt started. The bolt goes through that square hole. The smaller plastic washer goes on this bolt to protect the paint and seal around the hole. After you get the 1/4" bolt started and snagged up it will pull the assemble up were it should be. The lower adjustment screws should be in or very close to their holes. The long SS screw goes in from the inside and will thread in to the other side of the window opening. If you have a new door or door shin you will need to drill a hole for this long screw.
The other plastic washer goes under the chromed flanged front adjustment screw nut.

Roger, thanks for the very descriptive explination. I think I get it now, I'm missing some parts so it was hard to see before. Do you, or does anyone else, have some pictures of the adjustment bolts for the front of the door? I have the adjustment bolt for the one facing the seats, I don't have the ones for the front of the assemblies. Does the bolt that goes in the square hole in the door have a square part to it, or is it just a normal round bolt? thanks again!

Hey Don, I am currently out of town right now otherwise I could look in the Fisher body manual for you. If you have more adjustments on the car you may want to pick one of those up. They are only about $20 and offer a lifetime amount of info for Chevrolets. I will be home late in the week and if your question isn't answered by then I can take a look and hopefully help you out.

Have you replaced the door skin or had the door reworked at all?

Brandan - Thanks!
Bill - The doors are the only original metal left on the car. My vent windows were not good enough to try and have rechromed, so I had them powdercoated. I chased the threads with a tap, but I don't have any of the hardware from the teardown so I am guessing at how to put it back together. I think I got the vent window assembly back together properly, but exactly how to re-install it and do the rest of the window installation is a guessing game. My brother-in-law is going to take a few pictures of his 67 Firebird so I can get a better idea. Thanks!

This is the front adjustment screw with the chrome nut on it. The plastic washer is also on it but it is hard to see. The screw is just thread in about 1/4" so when you but the assemble in your door you will want to screw it in a lot more then this.
