: Something some of you need to read!
It seems some of you have forgotten the general rules of posting here at Team Camaro. As well some have decided it's ok to challenge the moderation here on the site! Let's see if I can help get things back on track before it gets too out of hand!
Let's start with the fact that when someone signs up to post here you are granted the privilege to post in the TC forums, it's not your right to use the forums here. If you have a login and password you have agreeded to this! Paid membership does not buy you exception to this... What that means is the site has the right to edit and delete what it wants and in reality doesn't need to provide a reason.
The folks selected to moderate are reasonable people and will usually provide some explanation when they moderate. If you get edited or have a post deleted, look inward to see if you can figure out what you said that caused the moderation. Off color jokes, racial comments, verbal assult and flaming or bashing are not tolorated, selling or posting wanteds are not allowed in the forums and political posting is also something that will be removed as soon as it's come across, that is not an all inclusive list...
There have been some recent ban's, both short term and permanent. Rest assured if someone gets a permanant ban it's not because they had a single run-in with the moderation here. Very few ever get banned for the initial moderation, moderators moderate and move on! What happens is moderators get chased down and challenged, I'm not talking about someone pm or e-mailing a moderator and asking "what did I do wrong" I'm talking about when someone is asked by a moderator to not do something and they do it anyway or send a pm or e-mail cussing out the modrator. There is no quicker way to end up loosing your posting privlages! It's commendable to standup for a friend but if that friend had a run in with the site administration you might want to think twice before getting involved!
This stuff is all so simple but some continue to not get it. The moderators and administrators are not here because they are boosting their egos by pushing folks around on the internet! There are plenty of places full of ugly and nasty and lacking in manors, the moderators are here to insure Team Camaro is not one of them. Maybe we all need to look at why we come to this site! In a nutshell it's to have fun and to share information about the Camaro, a car that we all find special...
There are readers and participants from all walks of life and from countries all across the globe. You may invision a certain group of friends as the audience when you start posting as if you are in your garage or shop but reality is readership is global! Keep that in mind when posting and if you slip up no big deal the moderators will catch it and we all on. Well unless you want to make more out of it, if you do keep in mind you have a lot more to loose than the moderators!
classicfan1 Nov 7th, 09, 02:01 PM Thank you so much for posting this, Dennis. I get tired of these games and people trynig to find loopholes. Again, thank you.

I'm quoting this, just so that maybe some folks will read it twice.
Steptoe Nov 7th, 09, 02:36 PM I have admin and moderated Sites and Forums for well over 10 yrs now, and still do.
Yeah I have been "pulled up", a couple times over the yrs...
1 a minor issue, yrs ago, I dissagreed with, still do, yet still see their piont at the time.
But over all the Admin and moderators are some of the best I have seen.
Bottom line...If one is familar with the backend the Admin is refered to as god....
Right or wrong, argue with god and you will loose.
Asking for an explaination, is not arguing, is a claification on a piont... and the Admin and moderators have always been very reasonable about this, even if you disagree.
You can disagree, but leave it there, move on , because the benifits will always FAR out weigh the minor issue....thats life.
And if you stand up for your friend.... friendship is not about the standing up for him, its about accessing the issue objectively, and if need be pull the friend into line...If they dont like that, its not a real friendship.

JimM Nov 7th, 09, 06:31 PM We do need to point that all out every once ina while, I guess. Good explanation Dennis.
I remember before I was asked to moderate, I was just plain JimM. Had something over 10k posts, and was pretty highly thought of I guess.
So at first it was cool. Then I had to lay it out that I was still me, and I was still gonna answer every question I knew the answer too, and I wasn't speaking from a higher chair than I ever had before.
If I couldn't enjoy Team Camaro as I always had, I did not want the job. This is still true. But it's been so many years, and there's so many new faces. Sometimes it seems even the old faces only see Jim the MODERATOR. :(
For the longest time, Dennis was seen as Mr. Admin. I'm glad in recent years he's been able to enjoy TC as just one of the guys more often than not.
When we have to "make an adjustment" we will. And then we will move on. It's not the end of anyone's world, and we certainly don't expect everyone to agree, just to accept.
Gary L Nov 7th, 09, 07:03 PM Excellent points Dennis. I know I may walk the OT line at times, but being at TC to me means enjoying all aspects of interacting with the folks here. Hopefully w/o offending anyone personally.
I have met 3 of the mods here and aside from being mods they are great people. When I see a member going at it with one of the mods here I just think too bad they have not met the person. It probably would not end the way it does at times.
:beers: to TC.

clwilcox33 Nov 7th, 09, 10:52 PM I'll say this, I have never had to personally ban a member, and I hope I don't ever have to. Dennis gets the brunt of those duties and takes some flack for it which I think, for a volunteer job, he handles very well. No moderator on this site likes to be seen as "The Moderator", ever.....
I think most of us feel that if we had to moderate members more than once in a blue moon, we wouldn't want to continue to do the job. We're here for the same reasons you guys are first, love of our cars, and for the community. Even worse, if it was bad enough on this site where constant moderation of the members had to happen, we probably wouldn't come here at all, because that wouldn't be a enjoyable experience for any of us, as members.
99.9% of us(I mean everyone here) enjoy the site for what it is and enjoy the atmosphere and friendships we've made with fellow members just as much as the wealth of help and information provided from all of you(us), the community as a whole.
First and foremost, JimM is Jim the TC member, just as I am still Christropher the TC member. Moderating is just our way of trying to help the site continue to run and run well so that we can continue to enjoy hanging out with you guys for as long as we can.
We're not saying a person shouldn't stand by his convictions; it's a free country to do as you please. But even in a free country, there are consequences for just doing whatever you like if it's deemed not acceptable by the masses. The difference here at TC, is that this is a privately owned forum, and freedom of speech doesn't apply if the owners, or it's representatives (admins and mods) deem comments unacceptable for one reason or another, which we feel is representing the masses here as well as the owner(s). Everyone agrees to that when they sign up, and each time they post.
Dennis and the rest of us just want to make sure that everyone understands, as he stated, that this is a global community, and just think about how what you say might be taken by a stranger either next door to you, or on the other side of the world. We'd much rather just hang out with you guys than spend our entire time here editing or deleting posts; or even worse, banning anyone.
RamAirDave Nov 7th, 09, 11:06 PM Was I supposed to read all of this? :D
larryh56 Nov 7th, 09, 11:46 PM I appreciate the fact that this site is kept "family friendly" and that the moderators are willing to make hard decisions sometimes to keep it that way. Thanks guys! Keep up the good work. :hurray:
K and K Nov 8th, 09, 01:55 AM Thank you for the site. Everyone, all members, thank you.

I have noticed this response many times by you. Here is some help.;)

Skeeter55 Nov 8th, 09, 09:03 AM OK who is in trouble now?
Ive been on my best behavior sense god nows when and i also appreciate the monitors keeping this site clean. They helped me stay clean on the site and always gave good professional advise when i and others needed it . It would be nice maybe if we had a monthly report card that will be visible by all to see and that would make people think twice on screwing up.
click Nov 8th, 09, 09:17 AM Great review Dennis, thanks.
I first came to TC when I first got my 69 back in 2002. I asked all the normal 'stupid' questions and literally spent hours reading past posts to learn more and more. I never had to shut down the screen if the wife or kids walked past the PC... it was all car stuff. In my job, I get to be online alot so I was in TC alot too. I guess Al and Dennis felt my being around TC alot would help them, so I was asked to be a moderator. They gave me the Interior section since I had gone thru my interior and took tons of pics to help others with... I just kept growing in knowledge on a daily basis.
The site grew and grew and nearly burned out Al. Im glad he's feeling better, sleeping better and I can tell you after meeting him and Dennis... they are top shelf guys with equal interest in cars. They or me or HighwayJoe, Jody, DanB, David, JimM or Bill or Christofer never come into TC to 'moderate' and we dont like to nudge folks but this is what keeps this site so unique in the car world. Its safe, fun, educational and a great source of making new friends. My goal is to personally meet the rest of the moderators in person as I consider them to be my brothers.
Id share my home, garage and dinner table with any of them anytime. Well I already did with JimM, (he likes strange beer).
Guys, help us to keep TC like a coffee shop where we all sit around and enjoy each other, our cars, our lives and our humor, (clean).
:beers: on me
Calpantera Nov 8th, 09, 10:23 AM :beers: for the mods, I know it is a difficult job. I have tried to mod sites in the past and I cannot as I just get sucked in. Heres to you guys!!
JimM Nov 8th, 09, 10:58 AM Id share my home, garage and dinner table with any of them anytime. Well I already did with JimM, (he likes strange beer).
As I recall, you supplied the strange beer? Along with the cool back porch to sleep within sound of the mississippi river?
Or perhaps you're refering to another time, when you and sue took my wife and I to an upscale minnesota eatery, that seves dinner on garbage can lids!!!!
I do agree tho, actually getting out and meeting other TC member is always loads of fun!
clwilcox33 Nov 8th, 09, 05:49 PM Only Mods I've met are JimM and Joe, both awesome guys to hang out with. I'll get around to meeting the rest of them someday, as well as more of the rest of you guys!
MrDanB Nov 8th, 09, 10:21 PM Some of the best people I've EVER met came from TC! I've met more people than I can remember and have driven my 69 car across several states to do it. Have helped others and have been helped by others a ton. I think my first question here was "why will my headlights come on, but not my dash lights... ... my wife is sick of holding the flashlight when we take the car out at night." lol Been 3 or 4 engines, an auto to tremec 5 speed conversion, and 2 rear ends later and I'm still enjoying reading and learning new things about our cars! The vast majority of "regulars" here have been stand-up guys and gals. Just the few try spoil the bunch sometimes. You can't hear inflection in a voice when it's just words typed on the screen...
Thanks to all who come here and learn and help others with their problems. It's a great felling to overcome something you think you will never fix on your own. I also say to the new guys: Never be afraid to try something! Research it, then DO IT! Most things can be redone, and once you get it done right, you have noone to blame but yourself! ;):D

The real dirty secret is the great pay you get for all the grief the job brings!

Dude... I don't know what it is about those wretched wings, but if there is one nearby, my head will find it. Usually abrubtly
alanrw Nov 12th, 09, 08:50 AM Should we chip in to buy Dave a helmet for him to wear when gets near a 67?
