Does anyone have the kreg jig? if so, how did you like it. how is it compared to using biscuits? it seems easier. Im still planning on buillding a vanity and this is what i would be using it for.

I've used both. The Kreg setup is definitely faster. With the Kreg system no clamping and waiting for the glue to set. Our house which was built in 1988 has every faceframe done with the Kreg system.

I use the Kregs all the time. I've got a pneumatic one. Clamp rails and stiles with a single jaw adjustable clamp for face frames. Festool's domino system is nice too. And naturally I have a biscuit joiner.

Man o man! Sure wish I would have known about this tool before this day. Spent yesterday with the neighbour punching in small nails:o, assembling a hexagon to cover floor jacks in the basement. This Kreg system would have foot the bill for me..gonna get me one after viewing this url.

Thanks for the tip:thumbsup:, eh?

I like biscuits, specially with gravy all over 'em :)

Biscuits are great for mounting the face frame to the box if you don't want to deal with nail holes.

Angel;
I use both also - depends on the demand of the joint and the accessablilty to the area.

I usually use the Kreg's more for assembling a face-frame or smaller cabinet boxes and joints.
I like the hold and instant durability they lend to a frame so I can glue it up, assemble and move it to get on with the next one.

Here's a 'YouTube' on making doors - YouTube- Woodcraft Presents KREG JigĀ® K3 - my brother sent me a while back.

I tend to use biscuits more for harder wood projects as I've had a slight problem with splits while useing Kreg's and then moving stuff around.
I still use biscuits almost exclusively for cabinet door buildups. I find that when they're properly engineered they hold up better than a 'screwed' joint and are no harder to lay-up than any other assembly method.

I got my Kreg stuff from the local Rockler woodworking store in Concord.
I use both an R-3 and the K-3 system. I bought the 'R-3' first to "try-out" the system and later ordered a K-3 system while they were on sale on-line.
I looked at the Rockler site and they are listed for @$140 now ... http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=11410

Like every tool for the woodworker - some you just gotta have and some just make life simpler, I think these fall into the 'simpler' area for me - but everyone has they own priority ...
I've built almost every cabinet, bookcase, cupboard, drawer and shelf in my home. I really enjoy having the tools that help me achieve a professional job and speed my work

Hope some of this helps.

LOL, the poor guy seems so dejected that the system works so well!!!

He mentions that the wood plugs come in different species of wood. I bet maple frames with walnut plugs would look pretty slick!!

i bought this kreg and i like it. I want to get my project done quickly and the kreg jr worked out pretty well. it was only 39.00 and i think it was well worth the money for the time i saved.
