What are the noticable differences between a cam ground on a 112 centerline from a 110 centerline. Does this affect the lope a cam will have?

Yes, it will increase cam overlap in give it a rougher idle. It will also narrow the powerband slightly, but the engine will probably make more power. Typical SB Chevy's like LDAs from 106-110* for best performance.

So, the 112 centerline cam will have a rougher idle / lope ? Dan

The grind we are talking about is a Comp Cams Custom Series "Muscle Car" grind. 112 centerline, 498-510 lift corrected to 530/542 lift. 228/230 dur @ 050.in a 383c.i. , 9.8-1's , Dart Iron Eagle 2.02 / 1.60.W/roller rockers. What will this setup produce as far as power in general and idle ? Dan

The tighter the lsa (smaller the number), the more overlap, thus rougher idle. IMO, the setup you have listed will make brutal low end torque, and work good with a 3.42-3.55 gear and a 2800 or so stall convertor.

Sorry about not being clear on that.

With only 2 degrees difference in LSA probably 99% of people (myself included :D ) couldn't tell the difference by listening to each cam idle.

Select a cam based on the performance charateristics and don't worry about how it will sound. You can make almost any cam idle choppy by playing with timing and the carb if you want, but a "good" sound doesn't make for good performance unless all of the components in the combination match.

Thank you for the replies. The main reason I'm asking about these figures for characteristics and idle, etc is because the motor is already built and ready to ship. Wanted to know if you guys could give me a feel for what this motor will be like...I'm not buying it for the sound, of course, but wanted to get an idea of what to expect when I fire it up. Thanks, again! Dan
