: Father & Son 69 Camaro... what color 2 paint?

My son is 17 and has been raised on building Muscle cars. We purchased a project 69 camaro, built a factory looking 396 375 engine, 4 speed and 12 bolt. Black standard interior. Very original looking restoration with no expense spared (within reason) The car is an early car and we are not trying to match the paint code. Our plan is to enjoy the car for a year or two and then sell it to pay for some college.

My question is what would be a good color that would show well and offer a good resale value??? Thanks team Camaro....

Blue w/white stripes hands down is best for re-sale imo.

You choose 1 your son chooses another...
Then put 2 bits of paper in a hat
1 says paint one side one colour the other the other
2nd says paint 2 tone upper and lower.

And have you son pull on bit out of the hat...that way he gets the blame.

The phrase "resell red" exists for a reason.

Will white stripes work with Black standard interior? Hockey sticks or Z-28 stripes??? The tail panel will be the black semi flat color.

Butternut Yellow!

I don't think I've seen a car with a black tail panel and Z28 stripes. That might cause some confusion.

If we are just talking about resale in the future then I agree with red or hugger orange with the white Z-28 stripes on the hood and rear deck. That being said I think you should paint it the color and scheme you like. That way when you sale it you know the person buying it has your same tastes in the car. mark

Tom,

My vote: either Lemans Blue with White Z stripes or Garnet Red with White Z stripes---- best looking and selling paint combos! White or black houndstooth interior and you are set!

Does it have a cowl hood.I am a Orange guy myself but it is custome Orange.I think the boy needs to decide but then again if you want to sell it you might want to make the decision so he doesn't get to attached to it.Hera a pick if mi mabe show him some.

IMO. You cannot go wrong with either Black, Red, or Blue.

I agree, Black, or Blue, red is the stereotype for these cars and appeals most to the general buyer. I wouldn't put Z/28 stripes on them since every resto now has them, but again, if your going to sell it you may as well...
Hockey stick stripes in black on a red '69 look mean, don't forget big shiny torque thrust 2's.

Great feedback. I have narrowed the options to Garnet Red/Huggar Orange with Black or White hockey sticks. The tail panel is black (SS 396 look) and the lower body panel(from the rocker spears down under the rockers) is Black. The car has Nice Black standard interior. Would white hockes sticks look odd with the black tail panel and lower body molding???? Thanks Team Camaro

Black standard interior is fine with any of those combinations.

I would stay away from hugger orange unless it was the original color of the car. Orange seems to be one of those colors people either love or they hate. The red may appeal to more buyers as it is either loved or people are OK with the color.

I think Garnet Red with black hockey sticks and SS hood and badging will be your best bet to satisfy the best of both worlds. This way you cover the general musclecar public, as well as the purist, who might be put off by stripe combinations that would not be commonly available, i.e., Z/28 stripes on a BB car with black tail panel. I think you could go with a white hockey stick if you like it better, but black is what would normally come from the factory with a black interior, and IMO would look just as good. Set the whole thing off with a set of the N66 SS wheels and some white letter tires. FWIW, I don't generally see very many 69's at shows that are painted the real, original Garnet Red. I see plenty of them painted the bright "resale red" with Z/28 stripes, but not very many original red cars.

However, I also like the Glacier Blue suggestion, or even Dusk Blue. Both are great looking colors in person. IMO, the Lemans Blue craze has resulted in too many cars being painted variations of the bright "electric" blue metallics.

I agree with you 100 %. This would be a 396 clone. I actually have the 074 Al heads and the 272 396 375 HP short block. BU 12 bolt and correct M21. This car is a rotissary project. All new glass, trim, clip, correct hardware...on and on . So I want it to look very very correct. Garnet red with black tail panel and black lower body panel and black hockey stripes. Bright trim option with rear delux bumper guards. Black std interior package with tach and center fuel gage. Original hurst 4 speed shifter. The hood is a cowl hood.

What wheels would you recommend???

For the tires I plan to save some money and buy the BF Goodrich radials.

Do you think this would be a desireable clone???

My son Loves the idea.
Thanks to everyone for the feedback.
