BLACK IT OUT!

I will be doing the same to my '69 Coupe even though it's not a big block car. It looks more aggressive and trimmed out to me.

I have the blacked out tail with the Z stripes. It looks great. 327/275 horse, and no big block.

Yikes! 84% saying black it out! Where are the purists?
I should also mention I deleted the bumperettes in that blacked photo...

More votes please!

Black looks cool, although I really appreciate a pure car, I'm no purist! No saint either ;)

If the car is close to original leave it. IF you have done major mods throw a spoiler on and if you want black it.

Me for 1 would never black the tail pan out. I like to be subtle yet somewhat original. So if i had a mean bbc i would black it out.

No big block, no black tail. Unless you do like Dennis (DjD) did, and go with a blackout that does not fill the entire area. I would think you'll get tired of Camaro "experts" telling you the tail shouldn't be blacked out on an L30 car.

I'm thinking about doing it on my '68. my car will be modified so I'm not too worried about the purist part of it. I'm not sure what cars actually came with the back panel "blacked out". I know the '69 SS did. others will know. I think it's a good way to add color to the rear. Especially if you're going with an "off color"

Personally, I would leave it original. When I was younger (I am 43) I would have said black it out. I'm to the point (in my Camaro life, that is) where a plain jane Camaro makes my juices flowing, especially an odd color. Hubcaps I now like, flat hoods, column shift, all the things I would have thrown in the garbage 15 years ago. I don't mean to offend any one here ! I love ALL first gens, no matter what trim level or color, what I mentioned is just what I prefer. Frank.

Voted to paint it black. I did that on my 67 rs/ss and it looked great. Go for it!

If this is the one-family survivor car that you mention in your signature, and if it has any original paint on it at all in presentable condition, then I wouldn't touch it. I personally love the blacked out tail panel, especially on a rally sport car, but I also agree with the purists that it needs a big block under the hood to go with it. But as I said before, if the car is as nice as your signature suggests, leave it alone and find something that has been beat on and played with to dress up like a big block. JMO, of course! :)

BTW, DO NOT put a rear spoiler on that car, PLEASE! I am tired of seeing incorrect rear spoilers on 67 cars - mine included! No offense intended to fellow Camaro owners who have 67's with spoilers...

Leave it alone, no black

If you dont like it you can always paint it back. Maybe use some kids finger paint that will wash off with water as a test run, or take few pictures and photoshop it black to see how it will look. Of course this advice is coming from a guy that has a '67 with a rear spoiler and a cowl induction hood, sorry Tom. :) I always think of my car as what I would have done to it in the late 60's early 70's. Many guys would get parts off of other year models to modify their car, back then no one would say "Hey man you have the wrong year hood" or "Ha! They didn't come with spoilers in '67 dum@ss". They would just think it was cool.

Bill, the photoshopped pictures are in my first post. My car is kind of stealthy and doesn't attract much attention at cruises anyway so I don't have to worry about "experts" telling me stuff. :D I agree with making the car how you want. Nothing pumps me more these days than a period correct '70s style car! How they looked when I was a kid.

It is the same car that I have in my sig. But after many years of contemplation, I've decided to do with it what I want which to this point is inject a little modern technology (and a 4 speed) but nothing that can't be reversed.

EXACTLY!:beers: That's what this is all about. Building our own dream cars. If YOU like it, DO IT! Unless you are planning on selling it as an original car of course. Seems like it's a keeper though. Very nice blue by the way. Is that Marina blue?

Thanks, it's Emerald Turquoise (K-K). It looks better under the fluorescent lights.
