I have a red with black vinyl top car. when I got it in 1975 had the bumble bee stripe and double pin stripe down the side. I was wondering is the pinstripe a factory option. the car was 8 years old and looked all original. is there a code for this or is it part of a package. thanks.
it looks pretty rough now but is finally in my buddy's shop to replace the back half.

"D96 was available on any 1968 or 1969 Camaro as a "stand alone" option (Not available in 67 as a "stand alone" option). It came standard on 1967 and 1969 Camaro's with the Z22 Rally Sport option, but for some reason, not the 1968 Rally Sport. It also came standard on the 1969 Z11 Pace Car and the 1967 and 1969 Camaro with the Z21 Style Trim option."

Is there a stencil or how would you go about painting this pinstripe?

The '67 A.I.M. shows the upper Z-21 stripe as 1/16", separated by 1/8" from the lower stripe, which is 3/32".

Finesse makes a wide variety of stencils. F-6 matches the factory dimensions. I've used them and they work well. I've also been pulling stripes by hand since '84. If using the tape I pull the ends by hand with a dagger. But you can overlap the tape to achieve the points where needed. You'll have to check references to see exactly how the ends are. You can spray the stripes or buy a dagger brush and striping enamel if you want to take a whack at it. (the Macks with the blue wrapping are better, most jobbers just sell the green).

If you're not comfortable free-handing it, in the plant we used Beugler striping tools with two paintwheels, guided by a full-length fixture that suction-cupped to the body. :)

Bingo. I always wanted to try one of those out of curiosity. They used to come with a roll of magnetic tape to use as a guide. You can sometimes see the evidence of the Beuglers "tracks": tiny serrations on the sides of the stripes.

As it has been said here many times, it's never too late to start learning.:noway:

I thought I also read somewhere that this option wasn't even available until February or later in 1967, so early build cars wouldn't have the stripes either.

Got my curiousity goin and looked it up in the '68 AIM....D96 was a totally different stripe in 68. It was pinstripes that followed the body "side crease line". The straight body line about thigh high. Don't think I recall ever seeing a 68 with the D96 stripes.
