BIG BLOCK CAMARO'S ARE GETTING NO RESPECT!! SIGN IN IF YOU HAVE A FAT CUBIC INCH BIG BLOCK STUFFED UNDER THE HOOD OF YOUR 67-69 CAMARO..AND PLEASE POST A PICTURE ON THIS THREAD SO THE OTHER GUYS WITH THE MICE UNDER THIER HOODS CAN DROOL AT A RAT THAT HAS BEEN OVER FEED...THEY MORE WEIGHT FORWARD THE UPPER BALLJOINT, AND THE LESS INNER FENDERS YOU SEE,!!..THIS THREAD IS FOR YOU...

MOST OF YOU KNOW, I POSTED A THREAD ABOUT" WHATS THE HYPE OF A Z28", WE ARE NOW GOING TO BRING IT TO THE TABLE ..SO YOU SMALL BLOCK GUYS AND 302 GUYS SIT DOWN AND GET FED..THE ONLY LEGIT THINGS IVE HEARD ANYBODY SAY IS THEY LOOKED COOL AND THE SOUND OF A SOLID CAM THROUGH THE EXHAUST...THE RACING HERITAGE OF THE Z IS A GIVEN!!..THE BIG BLOCK CARS ARE AND WILL RISE TO POWER AND GET THE FAME THEY DESERVE!!

EVIDENTLY YOU SMALL BLOCK BOYS HAVENT HEARD A BIG BLOCK ROAR AND HAVENT FELT THE UNGODLY TORQUE OF A BIG BLOCK THAT JUST KEEPS ON PULLING AND PULLING AND WONT BLOW UP WHEN SHE IS TWISTED A LITTLE BIT..THE FIRST TIME IVE SEEN A 69 CAMARO BIG BLOCK CAR...OH BOY!!..I GOT GOOSE BUMPS AS THE THUNDER ROLLED BY AND THEY DIDNT NEED WRINKLED AND BENT UP EXHAUST TO ECHO THE SOUND OF MONSTER CUBES EITHER!!

SO JUST SIT BACK AND ENJOY THE RIDE:beers:

I'm sure this thread will bring out some heavy discussion :beers:

I also believe one should be forewarned to wear Foster-Grants before viewing further as the glimmer/shine/bling will be asounding and cause blind spots on the retinas.

And I'm sure some SBC owner will say "I love it when my SBC beats your BBC."

Here's my 496 BBC. Drove it to work this morning and set off 3 car alarms going through the parking lot. Nothing like a ground pounding big block!!

Does my 69 Z (real one) with a 396 in it count? Has a 69 Z absolutely smoked you recently? There are some nasty small blocks out there that will put big blocks to shame. I have no preference because no matter what engine anybody has, it is used for their specific purpose, need or desire. Why are you trying to compare and divide us all. Next you'll say that a small block is better than a six banger. At the end of the day, no matter what power, 67-69 Camaros rock!

Nothing wrong with comparisons :noway: or spirited debating.....as long as it stays civil where no one has to be banned for getting out of control ;).

I love the way a BB looks in a 1st gen's engine compartment, and of course there is nothing like the sound of a BB. But I have a lot of respect for the fast SB cars, it's just personal preference I guess. I have yet to see a 1st gen on this site BB or SB that I didn't like.

Just Clean and Plain, no bling.

No ill intent on my part, you know reading these posts always gets taken out of context. Hard to compare them on a level playing field. Z's with their small blocks were for road racing and SS's were for the drags. I put a 396 in mine after I could not find (and still looking) my original 302. Big Block was the obvious choice for the street for me. Nothing says torque like a big block without doing heavy mods to a small block. And you always get a little more awwww when you open the hood for someone with a rat tucked in there and you say....."yep smashed the headers in there myself".

While BBC rule (I am building a 460 for my 69), stop and think about the Z28/302 SBC. For its size, it did buzz the streets and was (is) a killer motor. It started the SCCA factory fit competition AND lets not forget, it was the FIRST time a smaller engine (cubic inch) was purposely developed by any of the big 3 for increased horsepower and torque. Ford and Chrysler soon followed and we have their versions, just as stout and just as small. Remember, we are talking 1960's technology while by todays standard we can now go to a 427+ SBC. The early 302's screamed and were a hoot to drive on the street in the 60's.

I dont think their is a single person on here that thinks the Z/28 is the only Camaro by any means. :noway: As a matter a fact out of the 40 plus first gens I have owned, my 68 SS/RS 396 is, and has always been my favorite.

As for your carb question, maybe just maybe if every Tom, Dick & Harry out there with a base car wasn't trying to clown it into a Z/28 the prices might come down. Just a thought....

Thanks for the kind words, guys. She's not quite up to "true survivor" standards, but it's a clean old car. Best thing about it is that it has never had the rust bug, never been hit, and the engine has never been out. It still has some original belts, hoses, plug wires, etc. on it. Unfortunately, it had one "earl scheib special" paint job in the late 70's, and the body is getting a little dinged up. Kelly, I hope to have her looking as nice as yours some day.

Its a Ron Davis double pass radiator, hence the upper hose being on the opposite side. Was going for max cooling since the summers get pretty hot around here.

Not big enough......

Actually I had to drop the filter size down from the 5" to 2-1/2" to fit under a stock height cowl hood, but I'm going to go with a 6" cowl hood because of future plans, which my engine builder already has in the back of his mind ;)

Started having problems with the Camaro back in 06 and this summer I felt it was time to freshen up the 427...you know how it goes...got talked in to a stroker motor :D . It’s on the dyno now. Hope to get some numbers tonight after work.

That’s get about your car, like to see more pics of it.

About our buddy Rob….well I’ve seen him once in the past few years, I kinda gave up on trying to contact him.

I’ve been going down to PA at least once a summer and I my go again for Super Chevy or the GM Nats.

Take care :beers:

Thanks guys.... started building it in '90 when you could still buy GM sheetmetal from GM. Took a while to build the car since I brought it home mostly in boxes. I finally painted it in '93.

It doesn't see many miles due to the expense of race fuel & sub-6mpg, but it is fun on short trips.

Jan 13th, 10, 12:56 PM
It's a CS130 alt, so it's 100 or 105 A I think. I'd have to look in the project binder to be sure.

It's been a good day here. I got my tach back from AutoInstruments, and their new tach built within my old GM tach works perfectly. I had some issues getting up behind to tighten (lot easier to take out than to put back), and have some new cuts on the left hand, and my already hurtin' back feels worse. But the tach works!!

Oh, thanks Bill! Much appreciated. :) Yah, I still think the good old GM 7-blade big block clutch fan and shroud work just fine for my application. No need for the eletric setup. The radiator close-out panel is one of those ones you see from Ebay for like $75. There's a guy who makes them and sells them on there. I just painted it black. The Fesler support bars are definitely a nice product. Very happy to have those. There are more pictures, prices, part numbers, opinions, etc, etc, on my build site if anyone's interested.

While I have no digital pix my current 67 has had either a 427 or 454 under the hood as long as I've had it (since 1986) as I bought it with no motor or trans.

And this isn't the first 1st gen Camaro I've transplanted a BBC into either.

That's a funny story... I have no idea! It was in a 67 I bought and the story was it ran 10s in a local Nova which is pretty good considering we are at 6k'. I took the pan off and everything was very fresh so I just thought I would use it till I blew it up. It sounds pretty healthy and is around 500horse. Heads are off a 66 but I really don't know anything else and was too stupid to do any measurements when I had the pan off. It pulls hard and sounds very good. The block is a crate 454 and it had I-beam rods so I doubt it was stroked. It'll work for a bit!

Car is an original 6cyl. Since its basically not worth much I made it drive nice with a bunch of PT parts and a T56.

www.cilurso.com (http://www.cilurso.com) car is under 67 build. Almost back from paint.

632 BBC (World Crate Motor). Dynoed at 816hp at flywheel and 825 ft/lbs torque (albeit by World before it left their place and I know those numbers can be a bit elastic). Also moving to dual quad low rise will take some HP out of it, but that is for getting car registered in Australia and I want a dual quad look before going blown later on
