Which 5 speed are you trying to install? T-5, Richmond, Tremec???

Woody,

You should investiage the Tremec option as suggested. I have one in my '79 Z28 and like it quite a bit.

It is a strong box (~450 ft-lb rating) and there are no exposed shifter rods to get all crudded up from hanging in the breeze. You will need to shorten your driveshaft and move the crossmember back. It uses the old fashioned clutch fork, etc. arrangement you are probably familiar with.

Mike Forte from Forte's Parts Connection in Massachusetts is the leading expert on this swap into Chevys. The Tremec was installed by F*rd (oh, my!) in their Cobra R cars. Despite that, it is a nice tranny. Gear ratios are wide: first gear is over 3 to 1 and fifth is .67. I run 3.73 gears in my ride and would have gone a bit numerically lower if I had to do it all over again.

Soup to nuts you are in the $2k ballpark, if memory serves me.
