: missing something

Ok, see if you guys can figure out what I need.
On the rear package tray of a 67,across the back, under the rear windshield, is there supposed to be a piece of molded metal trim that would be painted . Just like there is above door panels . Mine does not have anything there that would cover over the tray. I have found the corner pieces that you can buy, but not a back piece, so I'm afraid I'm missing something that is supposed to be molded on.

Hopefully, someone can decipher my rambling and figure out my problem.

Jeff,
I believe it's just painted the same color as the other metal in the interior. The sides are somewhat exposed as well back there.

Jeff, if I understand your question correctly, the answer is yes. There is a metal piece that runs along the back above the package tray. The shape is the same as the corner pieces you mentioned. The corner pieces sit on top of the trim to the rear of the quarter-windows and on top of the metal piece in question. If the inside legs of you corner pieces have nothing to screw into, then you are definitely missing a hunk of metal. Also, the back edge of the pressboard package tray 'cover' slides underneath this piece. I have a factory original black interior and all of the metal trim in the area being discussed is painted black.

There is no center piece that is seperate. It is part of the car's interior metal. The corner pieces are separate, they screw into the middle and side metal.

There is no trim along the interior at the bottom of the rear window.

Mark, I think you are dead on to what I 'm talking about. I do think I am missing something, cause what I have now is unfinishable. (if that is a word).

I'm just not sure about how to fix it. I could fab something from sheetmetal i guess. I was just hoping there was a piece to buy. Thanks alot for fast response.

There IS a piece to buy, if you have nothing there at all.
It sounds like someone cut that part of the filler panel off for some reason (panel that is between the trunk lid and the package tray).
You can buy a new filler panel to replace the one that's on there now, but you'll have to remove the back window first. It is spot welded to the quarter panels if you get inside the trunk and look up next to the hinges. It's also spot welded all along inside the trunk gutter where the weatherstrip fits. Then it's spot welded all along the flange where the bottom of the back window channel is.
There's probably holes rusted through the panel that is below this one and that's why it was hacked up in the past.
Can you post pictures of it?

Son of a....., I just pieced together what has happened. I replaced the deck filler piece when I first got the car, cause mine was completely missing . One of the first things I did. Ordered it with several other pieces of various sheetmetal. After reading everyone's replies I looked up the deck fillers again, and just realized they sent me, and I have installed and painted one... for a convertible!! I had no idea at the time it needed the extra piece on it, because I had nothing to go by.

Well, I guess I can order another one FOR A COUPE, cut the piece off and weld it on.

Let me say though, as aggrevating as it is to find this out, I never would have figured it out without this incredible site. Or the hundred or so other questions I have had answered on here. Thanks again guys. Team Camaro Freakin Rules.

The part you’re talking about is not a trim piece. It is a body sheet metal part. It goes from the package tray to the top edge of the trunk. Check out the link below.

Oh bummer Jeff! I feel you pain..... been there done that with a piece recently.
:)

I guess if the conv. piece ends at a good area to mate with the replacement piece, it shouldn't be too tough.
If you replace the entire panel again, look at it this way...... you'll know exactly where all the welds are!
