just add that to the list of things you'd never see me do.
SPARKY69 Dec 2nd, 09, 03:55 PM wow!! way too scary for me!! very cool though..
zuma Dec 2nd, 09, 07:13 PM Cool Jim, thanks for posting...
camaroman7d Dec 2nd, 09, 07:39 PM That looks like fun to me. I actually have a couple head first lay down "things" I built and I would love to find a hill that long and smooth.
clwilcox33 Dec 2nd, 09, 08:26 PM I swear I remember seeing these suits used in a movie somewhere recently. Anyway, one pothole and he's screwed lol.
dreamweaver Dec 2nd, 09, 09:20 PM THAT WAS WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY KOOL! I skateboarded down a lot of mountain roads back in the day, but I never got to see anything like that before. The guy had to be cranking --- what??? --- 60 mph ??? If I was young again and I had the chance, I would jump at that in a heartbeat... it looks a lot more unsafe than it really is.
The pothole is a problem though.... I took more than one header by just hitting a tiny rock, and a pothole would be disastrous. No doubt he has scanned that road prior to doing his stunt.
click Dec 3rd, 09, 07:53 AM Royce, let us know where to send the flowers for your funeral if you try that :D
HwyStarJoe Dec 3rd, 09, 05:33 PM I had to wait till I got home to watch it.
WOW!!! I would absolutely do that if I had that buggy rollin suit he's wearing!
WOOOOO!!
:D
I would try that...maybe on a smaller scale but that is something that would be fun...hell you only go around once it may as well be fun!!....lol...

Me too, wasn't it a scene at the end of the movie where the 2 movie characters went for a spin down a winding road.
I wish it had showed how he got that thing stopped. The braking system didn't look to sturdy!
dreamweaver Dec 3rd, 09, 08:39 PM Yeah... that suit of armor was awesome. The colses I ever got to that was "shoe goo" :D
We used to take an old pair of tennis shoes and build about 1/2" of shoe goo on the bottom. Then, as soon as it rained and the streets were slick and sloppy, we would go to the steepest streets we could find.... which, growing up in San Francisco, wasn't hard :). Then we would put heavy layers of clothes on, gloves, etc. (no helmet back then :clonk:) and we would straddle our sketeboards, sitting down, and "ride the wave" - when you get up to about 20 mph or so you start hydroplaning.... feet on the street and holding on tight. Problem was once you start hydroplaning, all bets are off... no control whatsoever :hurray:. The best (or worst) one was when we went down the "steepest street in the world" - Hyde street in SF -, and two of us crashed into parked cars. At 20 mph it kind of knocks a few things loose. :D

Ah so that explains everything ;).
That looked a bit dangerous to me...I had never riden a skateboard when my friends (in college a couple of years ago) convinced me to ride with them down the snake river canyon highway to Boyer Park.
Thankfully we were busted by the State Patrol before anyone got hurt.
Don't think I ever stepped on one again :clonk:
larryh56 Dec 3rd, 09, 10:01 PM I wonder how the air bags work on that thing?
HwyStarJoe Dec 4th, 09, 06:41 AM I would try that...maybe on a smaller scale but that is something that would be fun...hell you only go around once it may as well be fun!!....lol...
That's exactly what's going on my headstone.... "That was great! Let's do it again!"
I think the only braking system he had was friction. The forearm covers and maybe his toes. Plus turning his body sideways. Like ski's.
The last time I went down a steep grade on a skateboard, I ended up sliding 20 feet on my left shoulder.... feet in the air. You're not supposed to step off when you're going that fast out of control.
;)
By the way... his name is Jean-Yves Blondeau.

HwyStarJoe Dec 4th, 09, 11:42 AM Yeah! He's got a bunch of videos on YouTube.... most are testing the equipment. It's just insane!

clwilcox33 Dec 4th, 09, 07:08 PM Ah! you found it :D I never saw the entire movie so I couldn't remember where I saw it. Good investigating there Jerry!
dreamweaver Dec 4th, 09, 07:40 PM Well, I watched all the video's I could find on YouTube on this guy and the one in the first link is still my favorite... thanks for posting this.

we did it with flexes and home made coasters... also I think 29th street is steeper than Hyde...

We flew a couple company cars- Chevy Celebrtys if I remember correctly..don't remember the street (before I was fully matured of course). The launch was fun but surprisingly the landings were a little rocky :clonk:
Wonder what market this kid is seeking with his buggy...young men that skateboard I suppose.
Imagine getting your kid one of those for Christmas

Maybe it was Baldwin??? All I remember is a sign that claimed, "Steepest Street in the World"... isn't that Hyde?
zuma Dec 5th, 09, 06:23 AM interesting read...for those who care...
