I am getting ready to paint my dash and need to remove the ignition switch but do not know how. I can unscrew the bezel, but it does not come all the way off. Do I need to insert something into that small hole in the front of the switch?

I always end up playing with these to remember! lol but if memory serves... turn the key to "off" stick a stiff paper clip into that hole until you feel the spring pressure get overcome, then turn the key counter-clockwise to the "aux" direction and it should unlock and pull out. This is all assuming I remember correctly... haha

I must be missing something on mine. I just unscrewed the bezel and pulled the ignition switch out from behind the dash. I'll be checking back on this one.

Yes, you need a paper clip in the small hole. Getting it off is easy. Getting it back on was much harder.

Hey I found this doing a search...
"Insert key into tumbler, insert paper clip into the small hole in tumbler face plate, push in on paper clip and at the same time, turn tumbler left to ACCESSORY and tumbler will unscrew from switch"

Actually, you insert the key, turn it as far counter-clockwise as you can, THEN insert the paper clip, push it in against the spring, and turn the key further clockwise and the cylinder will pop out.
:beers:

Then unscrew the bezel nut from the front and switch will be able to pull out the 'back' of the dash.
Unplug the connector and switch is in your hand.
I used a small screwdriver and a tack hammer and placed the screwdriver on one of the slots and 'tapped' the nut CCW. Maybe a small pair of needle nose pliers might work.
Patience is the key.

I have a '67 dash that I bought on Ebay (just a bare dash). If you don't have the ignition switch key, which I don't, is there a way to remove the switch?
As a last resort I guess it may have to be sacrificed to the "Gods of Speed" by getting the die grinder with a cut off wheel and cut the switch in two from the rear?

Thanks all. John Z's directions were the ticket. Put it in accessory position and insert paperclip and push in spring and turn to on position and cylinder came out.
