I have heard the term several times and I would like to know what it means. I heard it on a racing show last night on speed channel refferring to a 68 Camaro that the guy was running a 427.

It refers to the rear portion of the car being modified with an aftermarket/custom fabricated frame assembly to accept the larger wheels and tires and the narrowed rearend while the front uni body frame remains stock or stock appearing. For comparison...see the EBay link containig a full tube frame car....totally different than back halving......

Wheres the ...LOL... Is this PS bashing.I say something about paint on a 69 Camaro on Ebay that no one owns and it gets deleted but things like this just trash the boards.I wouldn't say sh!^ like this about a stock appearing cars just because I dont prefer a small tire car or say that the PT guys rims are to tall with out a ...LOL... behind it.I cant afford a original Z so this is what I have.

Agreed. If it's not your thing, fine. Some people happen to like the look. It came about when tire technology wasn't there and you needed big tires to put ridiculous horse power on the ground. Tunnel rams, carburetors, blowers, side pipes, loud mufflers, etc. are all not necessary, but people still like them. Let people build cars the way they like. Your negative comment isn't the answer this guy was looking for. You could've at least explained your answer. That way the guy could learn something.

Have a nice day. :D

I'm not plugging the ad; it has a good pic of what a correctly done back-half entails for a race purpose car.

Hey Jeff - I thought I'd take a second and point out we try to avoid inflammatory remarks here, you did a good job of damage control after seeing it upset others but it's best not to post statments that will rub folks the wrong way! I'm leaving the post but most likely others will be put off by that first comment and will be letting you know it!

I respect your right to not like something or disagree with with someone but there are ways to express that without taking shots!

Not a question of being able to afford it, its the point of being able to go fast on 10.5s or drag radials...
Draging un-needed weight of huge tire carcass and wide wheels is just slowing P.S. cars down.
Keep building them however, I love crushing big tire, big block, blown wanna be race cars with my street driven pump gas small block on stock suspension ! :beers:

Jeff,I can agree with the 10.5 but I still would like to see them tucked up inside the wheel well would you agree with this or do you like the whole tire showing. The outlaw 10.5 tire looks like a 14-32 if you look at it fast.

I personaly would like my car to sit about three inches lower but this would have required channeling. My car is not realy about the time slip but the look. When I first started the car I was going to put a Chrysler straight 6 in it.It just kinda snow balled.

This is all ...JMO...so I dont need a ...LOL...I think this is the rules here but not sure...

It means stuffing a man's sized tire underneath your car to handle some real HP and get down the track EVERYTIME unlike the baby sized tires which usually only get down the track maybe 5 times out of 10 and about kill somebody. Ive seen some horrible crashes with small tired cars that would not have happened with a 14/32. Stop by and ask WJ or Greg Anderson about putting the baby tires on their car, lol they would look at you like you were crazy plus never get down the track.

Here again not sure I care what width the tire is it just needs to be tucked away at least to the rim or even more. This is ...JMO...My buddy has a 10.5 68 Camaro going 7's with two systems and his car go's straight every time its not the tire that keeps the car in a straight line its the way its set up in most cases....

Some people are just haters, plain and simple. If you don't like big tire cars that's fine. Why would you flap your gums in the thread if you had nothing positive to say? For the record I don't have a fat tire car both my cars are drag radial 325/50/50's and yes they are tucked. I do happen to like fat tire cars that can back up the look with some decent power. Not everyone wants a race car.

Since you are into bashing, let's see some pictures of your fire breathing, big block eating, small tire car. I always like to see surperior built and performing cars. Did you build it yourself too?

Royce, your starting to get like me but if these guys are hating against the big tire so be it.

It still erks me about the prostreet sitting below PRO-TOURING looking like PS is its little sister and I am still trying to get over that.Mike and I posted in Jim.Ms sticky about the new EFI forum and he deleted the post like a ba habit.

He PM'ed me with 'WHY' and in the pm he asked how I could have the nerve to put my stuff in his sticky.Did I just say that?He told me to PM 'theDon' I did and with no reply not a yes or no.

I dont know if I care so much anymore about the bold type but its still in my crawl.I come here to talk about thie things I know and like sometimes think I know and get told otherwise but that is life.I told Jim that I would make it a point every now and then to remind them about it.I thought it took like an act of talking to the President to change the Forum topics but it seems not.

I love the fat tire cars and this is realy all that catches my eye at the track or shows.Team Camaro is a cool place to hang there can be some friends made and there are some that tend to shy away and I think I have a few of them as well.Jeff is new here it took me a year and a half to figure out that I am not going to get my panties in a bunch and its not worth it. My son and I will eventuly get started on his Chevelle he has his fat tires up in the attic already.

Royce hows the Buick coming need some updates maybe they are here and I missed them as I bounce around to much.

Jeff, this stuff go's way back and this topic is like a daisiavew heres my fat tire car sits a little to high dont it...

I would like to jump back in here and diffuse some of the talk in this thread. When I started the thread I had heard the term used on a show on the speed channel, and I really only wanted an explanation of what the term "Back Halved" meant.
I didn't ask for comments about the pros and cons of doing this to your car.
There were several good answers and with the pictures I now understand graphically what the term means.
Thanks to those who answered my question.

Dave,
I understand what you're saying about the Pro Street sub topic and I argued that as well. The "fad" right now is pro touring and while I don't agree that it needs it's own topic what makes a pro touring car different than a regular car? Bigger wheels? Like I said I fought that fight, it's not going to change and it's not my site so that's that.

The Buick is coming along, it looks like a car now Iwill get some pictures up soon. I still have to get the glass and interior in it. I ran into a little snag with some chrome that was poorly done and needs to be done over (grill and headlight bezles). Been working a little OT and the little spare time I've had was spent on the Nova engine. The Buick will be done early next year.

Brian,
You are correct you asked for a simple answer to a simple question. The problem is this is one of those subjects that emotions run high on. It really isn't going to "de-fuse" very easily.

The OP got his answer so since our tripple moderator friend is still causing trouble let's call this one done! As well let's stop whining about the site structure!

The forums are the way they are because PT topic's dictated the need for it's own forum. Al created a PS sub forum as a trial because a few asked for it but he wasn't sure there was a really big demand as there have never been many PS threads.

You guys proved Al right because for months all there was is a picture thread and no tech questions being asked. The EFI forum has had 2 times the number of threads since it was started and it's all tech related!

I understand your love of PS and have a lot of respect for guys like Royce but I'm a bit dissapointed when I read things like PT is a fad or PT is just wheels! I'm not into PT or PS but my car is modified, to me it's just my car personalized to my taste. I love seeing both PS and PT cars for the craftsmanship that goes into them but find both builds not practical for me. That's not hate like some of you have accused me of in past threads on this subject.

The bottom line is if the interest was there Al would have taken the PS and put it into it's own category, by interest I mean quantity of tech questions being asked that pertain to PS...
