: Edelborck fuel injection system
hendo5767 Nov 23rd, 02, 07:45 AM I am thinking of converting my 67 from a carb. to the Edelbrock fuel injection system p/n: 3500. I currently have Dart S/R torquer heads on the engine with everyting working fine. I would like opinions on this conversion......I have pulled-up the Edelbrock Performer RPM head specs...vs. the Dart S/R Torquer's because they recommend "The total package" (cam, heads). Besides the combustion chamber differences, I can't see much of a difference in the specs....I can see changing out my cam (No big deal), but replacing out the heads I think is going a little far for this conversion. I am not completely sold on the Edelbrock fuel injection system. I would like some opinions on this subject....good, bad or whatever. Has anyone had any problems with this system?
Ballistic Nov 23rd, 02, 09:47 AM Have you checked out the Holley Commander 950 system? A big advantage this system has over the Edelbrock is that it is completely programmable with a laptop instead of using PROM chips.
ramcda Nov 23rd, 02, 10:55 AM I have done a lot of research on this lately. I decided to stay away from the Edelbrock system as it was not recommended by anyone I spoke with. I went with the Holley Commander 950 with the Stealth Ram intake. I have not yet installed it, but I have been told by a bunch of people that is the best bang for the buck. For info on the Commander 950 go to the EFI forum on www.chevytalk.com. (http://www.chevytalk.com.) It is run by a Holley EFI tech named Doug. There is not an EFI question that someone there can not answer. Good luck!
TOMS69 Nov 23rd, 02, 08:42 PM If money isnt an issue check out www.electromotive-inc.com (http://www.electromotive-inc.com) Awsome stuff. My neighbor put the EFI kit and the ignition setup on his car and it works flawless. It came with baseline settings to start with and a great program for the laptop computer to totally dial it in.Its been on the car for 2 years now with no problems. And since he runs the hell out of the motor...I'm sold.I plan on buying EFI kit soon.
hendo5767 Nov 24th, 02, 06:47 AM Wow!!! nothing good about the Edelbrock system.......O.K. What about my heads (Dart S/R Torquers)...will I have to replace them? Any thoughts? This Electromotive System looks like I'll have to sacrifice my first born male child to get...probably out of my price range.

ramcda Nov 24th, 02, 12:42 PM Your best bet for EFI questions is going to be to talk with Doug F. over in the EFI forum on cheytalk.com. You won't have to change out the heads with Holley's system, but I can't speak for the rest. Holley has three different systems to choose from that would be a good fit for you. Two port injection, and one throttle body injection. Port injection is around $2300, and TBI is $1300.
trplblk Nov 25th, 02, 05:05 AM I put the Edelbrock Pro-Flo e.f.i. system on my '69 about 4-years ago, and I really love it!I found a used one in my area for $1200.complete and installed it myself with a few phone calls to the Edelbrock Tech guys. The onboard calibration module makes changing settings on the fly easy, and I like the Base tune/A optional tuning/B optional tuning and C optional tuning features.I should also tell you I do not take my car to the track and this system tunes nicely for the street!Good luck-John Ziganto.

hendo5767 Nov 25th, 02, 06:57 AM John, What kind of engine set-up do you have? Do you have the recommended whole ball of wax (Heads, Cam etc...)? What tranny are you running? I figure the more information on this subject prior to getting into it the better off I'll be....
I have 1 year left here in Iceland (Military) then retire in Michigan. I wanted to have a EFI system waiting for me when I arrive the U.S.
Thanks all for your help!
trplblk Nov 26th, 02, 07:00 AM I've got the Edelbrock Performer R.P.M. Heads and matching cam.I'm using a TH-350 recently rebuilt for street/strip with a Pro-Torq 2800 stall converter into a 12-bolt 373 posi.I don't have all the horses squeezed out yet, but at the rear tires I've got 302 h.p.of tire smokin',import chokin'street fun on tap!Next spring I intend on dyno-tuning it for a max-power setting for the base,a max fuel economy setting for cruising on the alternate setting, and possibly a setting for the Edelbrock Nitrous kit made for the EFI set-up I have!I'm sure the Holley set-up is great also, but for the price and the in-car parameter change possibilities, I'm very pleased! John Ziganto.
