Has anyone ever seen a 1st gen 10 bolt rearend w/ bolt-in axles? I got this rear from a guy who says it was on a '69. It has posi and 2.56 gears in it now. I can't seem to find any numbers on this thing inside and out. The axles are 30" 27 spline, the length from flange to flange is 57 5/8" and from center of perch to perch is 42 1/2". My car is a 68 mono leaf and this is a multi-leaf rear which is a plus. If this will fit is it going to cost more then usual to change gear ratio?

Thanks for the help
Scott

It's probably a first gen Firebird rear end. They had a BOP 8.2 10 botl that didn't have c clips on the axles. Does it have eyes cast into the top of the center like a Chevelle rear end?

Thanks for the quick reply....i can't see any eyes on top. I was just able to find the number 9793078 on it under a lot of grease.

Gears will not be the expensive part. The differential will need to be changed. You have a 2 series differetnial right now and it will need to be changed for a 3 series if you want to use something like 3.55 or 3.73 gears.

I think the BOP cover looks like this gasket.

OK thanks for the info. Seems like i'm no better off then converting my existing to a posi unit other then it is multi-leaf. I think i will tell this guy I will pass on this unit. He didn't want much for it BUT there really is no gain for me at this point.

Thanks again for the help.

The BOP 8.2 10 bolt is a slightly stroner rear end than the Chevy 8.2 10 bolt. That's about the only advantage to this one.
