Can base be applied directly over etch primer? I have a small paint repair that I sanded to bare metal which now needs to be primered.

thanks

I have never had any trouble doing so, yet I do recomend checking out the instructions on the spray can or search for a spec. sheet on the primer.

So I don't need to seal it before the base coat? Does the etch work as a sealer?

No on both. Etch,Use a high build 2k primer, sand and paint. You do not want to bypass the primer. 2k primer after sanding will act as a sealer.

Personally not a fan of any etch primers, i start with epoxy and then on to a good 2k primer, i would sand off the etch primer and apply a epoxy. Even just a good 2k would be better than a etch primer.

I think the only time I use an etching primer is on steering columns, since they are aluminum and I don't have the need to mix any epoxy. I those cases, I just topcoat with an enamel.

as general rule 2kprimers are not for direct to bare metal .youre supposed to seal over etch primer,i would just toss the etch primer and opt for an epoxy dtm primer ,sealer there are several high quality brands out there
