: Broadcast Sheet - What does it say?

This is continued from a thread under the Restoration forum. To summarize, I found the broadcast sheet on the tank of my 1969 396/325. I brought the sheet to a paper conservator who was able to clean and flatten it so that much of it is readable.

Unfortunately, the top portion of the sheet was most damaged so the VIN number cannot be read. However, I can read a most of the body number which matches the body number on the trim tag.

I have attempted to decipher the codes but could use some help determining what they mean. I have Jerry MacNeish's Z/28-SS396 fact book which has some broadcast sheet examples, however, I think they are not from LOS cars (mine is) so they sheets are somewhat different.

Here is the trim tag info

ST 69 12437 VN249996 BDY
TR 711 69 69 PNT
1D 0397

Here is a pic of the broadcast sheet:

Here is a pic of what I can read from it so far. Any help filling in the box numbers or determining what the codes mean would be greatly appreciated.

these are some of the code I pull off it. I dont have my sheet decoder in front of me. Maybe KurtS can answer these. I see quite a few SS items on there. Some are pretty generic to all Camaros.

Dont see an engine or trans code, they are gone. Hoses may be big block related along with Shocks. I have my buioldsheet also and my car is small block so some of your stuff differs from mine.

Kurt and other on CRG may have some of the codes and could probably tell you what you had. But finding a source with all of them listed is not going to happen real soon.

This Broadcast copy proves it to be a 396 big block. With your partial body number intact, you have Gold. The important codes are:
Line 2: C=turbo 400, big block only
Line 4: AE=big block generator brace
Line 5: GL=turbo 400
Line 6: H=big block fan shoud
Line 7: XT= plain wheels, Z=white letter tires
Great find, I hope they preserved it as well! With all the fake SS cars out there, this would prove it to be a real SS 396.

Great to know! I purchased the car with virtually no documentation, just visual verification that that the VIN number is stamped by the oil filter.

The paper conservator added a backing to the broadcast sheet as well as a protective sleeve. That should protect it a whole lot better than storing it on the gas tank.

The wheels currently on the car are YA and AO wheels. Since the car originally came with XT wheels, I won't feel bad swapping them out.

Derek,

Cool find!! It still amazes me that after all these years a basically unprotected 8x11 sheet of paper makes it!!

I emailed you a PDF file copy for chassis broadcast codes. I think it's fairly accurate.
Enjoy!!
