: Thinking about buying a military truck
67RS/SS406 Dec 20th, 09, 05:27 PM I may be crazy or going through a midlife crisis but I have always loved any military equipment, from guns to trucks. I have found a 1965 M35A2 that has been "bobbed" (It was a 6x6 but is now a 4x4). These things are built very heavy with Rockwell axles and transfer case and it has the Continental LD465 inline six multifuel engine.
I have always loved the look of these trucks after they have been bobbed so the fact that it's not original really doesnt bother me. It does need some finishing touches but it looks like a good start for another project.
Have I lost my mind?

novaderrik Dec 20th, 09, 05:43 PM something like that would be extremely handy for someone that hauls scrap iron or something like that. it would also make one hell of a tow/plow truck.
but if you live in a city it would just serve to make the people that drive hybrids angry, so i guess it's got a useful purpose even in an urban environment.
hell yeah, get one.
bikedude3 Dec 20th, 09, 05:53 PM thats bad @ss would love to have that.i live in sticks and could play in the mud all day with that and never get bored
67RS/SS406 Dec 20th, 09, 06:24 PM If I do buy it I want to find a military trailer and use the box off of it for a truck box so it looks more like this.

SixtyAte Dec 21st, 09, 02:35 AM Its what we live for....our hobbies after our real life stuff. Wife, kids family, pets, house payments, bill collectors then our self. When there is enough money left for us to enjoy, we can drink, gamble or get toys we want. Getting another toy is the best of those three :) Go For It !!!

Everett#2390 Dec 21st, 09, 03:31 AM Go for it! You can't take it with you when you die, enjoy it now while you can.
DOUG G Dec 21st, 09, 03:34 AM Looks like fun. I wouldn't want to haul much....have to lift stuff too high:)
HwyStarJoe Dec 21st, 09, 04:11 AM LOL! Wow.... you don't get more "truck" than that, let me tell you.
But I gotta agree with Derrik.... it'll be great for a farm or a towing\plowing business. Otherwise it's a noisy, hard to handle beast. You don't want to drive it in traffic or around town. I've driven many of them many miles and it's a work-out. Even the updated 'power' versions. Wear hearing protection and bring a set for the passenger.
If ya got the spare coin and just need a toy, go for it!
jeff_gates Dec 21st, 09, 11:02 AM I have permission to buy a late 60's early 70's bronco.

....and you're still here posting....go now......bring it home. A friend of mine just restored an early '70's Bronco and it looks very nice.

I was really thinking it would be a good rig to put a plow on. We live just outside of town on 3 acres and have a long driveway. I have a 1953 Farmall Super M but the thought of having a heated cab when moving snow sounds really good.
wiskeesour Dec 21st, 09, 04:28 PM Those things are kewl.
I have LOTSA parts myself and i know lots of places to get more parts of you need help...Id be glad to help anyway...
HwyStarJoe Dec 21st, 09, 08:12 PM Unless something was added recently, the amount of heat you get in the cab is about as much heat as you'd have by holding a lighter.
;)
Camuchi Dec 21st, 09, 08:49 PM HELL YES BUY IT!!!
and plow your entire 3 acres people will freak out driving past ha ha
I love to see evidence that rednecks are NOT confined to the south.
click Dec 22nd, 09, 06:56 AM BUY IT :D then get a small trailer for your Camaro and tow the camaro to car shows with it.
I agree, if you have the coin and space to park and work on it without getting neighbors mad at you, go for it. :)
okiemark Dec 22nd, 09, 08:12 AM a guy used to bring a truck to car shows around here that was TWICE as big as that. In fact, it was a retired missle-launcher. It certainly drew a crowd.
sako Dec 22nd, 09, 10:40 AM Man, that thing is just bad a$$. How many miles would you get in something like that?
It would be cool to drive that through a shi* load of zombies.....haha.:beers:
jr68 Jan 12th, 10, 07:55 PM I love the big military trucks.
We have an antique military show in Iola every year a few weeks after the car show and I head right for the trucks, they are amazing , I want one too.
