I am about to get my BBC Solid Ultradyne 288/296 cam. I am using some dual valve springs that AFR is putting on my heads, don't know exact specs but they are for a "solid cam". I AM using GM's E.O.S, but am wondering what you guys suggest for Cam Lube, i have heard conflicting things. what brand or part numbers do you guys like? Also i am going to try to get the motor fired as quicly as possible and not take out the inner springs, if it doens't crank right away, then i will pull the inner springs. i was going to use comp's stuff, but everyone here thought their stuff ain't so great
here are my spring specs
395 open at peak lift
145 seat pressure
with a 610 lift cam. thanks.

I like to use the cam manufacturer's recommendations for both break-in lube and valve springs. It might save some grief down the road.

I'd check first with Ultradyne and see what their spring recommendation is, and not just use the "solid lifter springs" AFR is putting on your heads without knowing what they are, what the installed heights are, how close they are to coil bind at your cam lift, etc. I would NOT fire it and break it in with 400# dual springs installed.

Cody,
You had better check with Harold at Ultradyne about those springs. Most flat tappet cams will not survive with much more than 340-350 lbs open pressure.

They said they were 350 open seat, but when he did some calculations?? he said with a 610 lift cam, they come out to be 395? whatever that's all about i don't know, I will be giving them a call on monday to ask. thanks

Really any moly lube is fine but definately use the GM EOS. Even some cam manufacturers recommend it.

Cody I urge you to remove the inner springs. I am re doing my entire bottom end now as a result of a cam failure. I would not take that chance again!
