: Cars Exempt-What Manly Machines Do you Own?
Eleanor's Nemesis Jan 12th, 10, 04:23 PM Looking over the responses in the tool thread.....I started wondering what kind of machinery aside from vehicles do you own that are raw 100% MANLY. You know, the stuff that you like talking about with other dudes. Motorcycles, tractors, boats, stuff like that.
No candy azz twinkle toe stuff like sewing machines here. Straight up testosterone pumping hardcore machinery only. No pretty boy stuff allowed.
I have a few 1980's model John Deere 420 Lawn and Garden tractors that are nothing short of being beasts. Huge 60 inch mower decks, 20 HP Onan engines and the frames are bigger than a half ton truck.
Something else that gets the testosterone flowing is my Sachs Dolmar 32 inch chainsaw. This thing has a cam in it that sounds like it belongs in Warren Johnson's Pro Stock car, just when it idles it has 'oh shlt' factor written all over it. It goes through big wood like gravy. It's almost scary tbh, lol.
Alright, what kinda stuff y'all got?
satz28 Jan 12th, 10, 04:39 PM Does having a 8' wide can opener mounted to the front of my F250 plowing a 12" of snow count?
Hatman Jan 12th, 10, 04:41 PM Honda trail 90.
pro70z28 Jan 12th, 10, 04:47 PM I was gonna say our new 1/2 hp sewing machine. :noway: I'll think of somthin' else......
Vintage 68 Jan 12th, 10, 04:58 PM ... what kind of machinery aside from vehicles do you own that are raw 100% MANLY.

WHAT - no sewing machines
Dude one of my favorite "Manly" machines I ever owned was my Yamata commercial upholstery sewing machine
Just get you fingers close to that needle when it's pumping up and down at @500spm and you'll see what "Manly" is all about - I'd bet half the guys on here would scream like little girls when their fingers got within a inch of that needle l:)
Nothing like giving yourself a couple stitches in the fingers to get you pay attention to what you doing ;)
Other than that i got a few sorta manly things - like an Eliminator power boat, an LT1 powered MasterCraft, a 10HP brush shreader and a few odd old McColloch Chainsaws and other hernia-generating gas powered devices ...
crustyz11 Jan 12th, 10, 05:06 PM 1977 Chevy heavy-half ton 4x4 plowtruck...unstoppable! I just plowed a driveway that hadn't been done yet this winter. 2+ ft of snow and never got stuck.
1954 Alumicraft 13.5 ft speedster with a Merc Thunderbolt 4...driver position is all the way in the rear. If you're going all out and crank the wheel, it'll turn sharp enough to pull the motor right out of the water.
1960's Simplicity rear-engined drag racing mower.
X33D80 Jan 12th, 10, 05:28 PM My list is probably shorter than most:
1. A Kabota lawn & garden tractor with a 20 HP diesel 3-cylinder engine and 54" mower deck.
2. Stihl leaf blower & hand held edger & string trimmer, hedge trimmer, & chain saw, and not their cheap stuff. (I like Stihl products) All combined, including the vehicles, 34 pistons at my house.
3. A few handguns and rifles etc.
Mike's67 Jan 12th, 10, 05:30 PM In my garage I have 2 vertical mills, a 16X40 metal lathe, tool grinder, 6 ton arbor press, lincoln mig welder, Quincy air compressor, disk/belt sander.
In the shed there's a fully modded yfz450 and a 700 raptor
68basecoupe Jan 12th, 10, 05:39 PM Does my samuri sword(which I have taken classes for)and my 44 mag count?
Steiner Jan 12th, 10, 05:43 PM Honda VTX1800 that has the biggest pistons Honda has ever put in any engine at 4" (sound familiar?), one of which points directly at my crotch should the rev limiter ever fail.
Lawnmower with a 24hp v-twin and I've only got a flat acre to mow.
Having a Moser 12 bolt with 33 spline axles behind a 300hp motor is a little bit of overkill, but it was installed with the next motor in mind.
RichSchmidt Jan 12th, 10, 05:49 PM I got a badazz 1978 Honda fiddy pit bike.It always puts a smile on my face.

wiskeesour Jan 12th, 10, 08:57 PM My family has numerous large and very heavy earthmoving equipment including my favorites a 2001 Caterpillar D6RII Hi-Track, and Komatsu track hoe 45 or so ft reach with a thumb (claw), and a very large ol' Mack Superliner (Affectionately called 'SuperDog') that is used to haul theses things around.
OH, and we have a rock crusher that turns 5ft diameter solid rock into stones the size of a half-dollar. "Arr-arr-arr"
buenymayor Jan 12th, 10, 11:49 PM A whole barn full of John Deeres and related farm equipment. How 'bout a 4'x8' welding table with a 3/4" steel top? That thing is definitely manly.

Its not in the picture, but I have a rack on the truck now. It has helped many times with engine removals/installs. 1 ton chain horse makes pulling the engines in and out simple and the best part it is easy to move this engine hoist. Just turn the key and go.

RSSSfanatic Jan 13th, 10, 01:37 PM Hmmm, I have an old 25-foot Baja with a warmed over 468 and a Bravo1 - switchable exhaust so I can MAKE IT LOUD when I want to. Not as badazz as both of my buddies' supercharged sleds, but still pretty manly.
Also have a 52 inch Bunton hydro with a 16 HP Briggs Vanguard twin. Assorted nail guns, compressors, saws, welder, and various firearms (although I need to stock up on the latter in preparation for my daughters reaching dating age). :D
With the Camaros, the boat, both trucks, my wife's car and my daily driver, as well as the mowers and assorted power tools, I think my ICCI (internal combustion cylinder index) is close to 60.

No, it's a genuine Guide Lamp M3A1 in .45 ACP. Some of you may know Guide Lamp as the makers of the side marker lights on your Camaros! So it's really a Camaro grease gun, right?
And some situations call for TWO grease guns!

I honestly don't know. A friend bought it from the original owner and did a frame on restoration and it isupposed to be the original color. I remember it was blue when he first got it out of the barn. I have the original order form for the truck and it has less than 25,000 original miles on it today.

Phx 69 camaro Jan 13th, 10, 08:38 PM We have a vermeer 1600 chuck and duck wood chipper. No auto feed, it pulls trees

great but may start saving for an auto feed. Keep thinking of that fargo movie!!
Stihl Jan 13th, 10, 08:48 PM Besides the usual vehicles, boats, and motorcycles, I am a sales rep for Stihl. I have an enclosed trailer with over 30 demo Stihl chainsaws, trimmers, leaf blowers, etc. A tool for every occasion.

I've got a friend who was here from Germany for awhile working and the company paid for an entire shipping container for him to take his stuff home when he left. If they have owned stuff for a year, they don't pay taxes on it when they bring it back to Germany. About fourteen months before he left, he went on a Stihl splurge and for about a year had a big stack of Stihl boxes in the livingroom of his apartment. Even though they make stuff in Germany it was like half price here.
Z15CAM Jan 13th, 10, 11:52 PM By the time I was 10 I could shoot and break down about any Firearm handed to me. Herstal FN Belgium Browning's were there for me. By the time I turned 16 I lost interest in firearms and went for a Right Side Shifter. I've been riding this 72 Breganze for 38 years.

Stihl Jan 15th, 10, 06:46 PM Kevan, we have an MS460R Rescue Saw specifically designed for fire and rescue use. The carbide tipped chain is great for venting. We field tested them several years ago with the Columbus Ohio fire depts and they loved it. The best part is that you can remove the depth guage and put regular chain on it and have a back up chainsaw for storm damage tree clean up also.
