im trying to replace my key igition switch how do you get it out of the car when undoing the bezel the key part is still attached to the key switch doesnt this slide out thus you would have 2 pices the key tumbler than the ignition switch?

im getting to a point where i think i may have to drill or something crazy ..

You insert the key and also a paper clip in the tiny hole in the face of the lock. Press in on the paperclip while you turn the key to the left, beyond the normal stop. Then the cylinder will come out with the key when you pull on the key. You can then remove the bezel and remove the ignition switch.

it doesnt work i have inserted the paper clip i can see a small pieces that pushes up and down when turing the key it doesnt release, im thinking im going to have to steal my own car by taking a big arse hammer and a pointed screw driver and knocking the heck out of the tumbler i dont see any other option at this junction.

spray some wd-40 in to the lock. Mine did the same thing it was almost like it was rusted in place. I had to work it, but it came loose.

It will come out.

Push the paperclip in the hole with the key in and the lock straight up in OFF.
While still pushing the paperclip, turn the key to the left, past accessory almost to 90 degrees
pull the cylinder out with the key.

It's tricky. you can't just put the paperclip in with the cylinder in accessory, you have to start in off, with the paperclip in correctly, it will roll right past accessory when you turn it.

I had the same problem and agree with all suggestions above using time and patients. Once the hammer is used there is no going back! It will be 100 times harder trying to smash the ignition to remove it!

It's a perfect day in LA today to do this right! Nothing like hiding is the garage with 60 mile a hour winds and horizontal rain blowing in the garage LOL!

only have 3 postions here off nothing to the left than on than start only 3 positions for the aftermarket inginition switch im using, anyways if i start in the acc position therte is nothing at all to push down with the paper clip, when in the off position you can see a gold piece go down when pushed thats about it as your pressing the paper clip doesnt go all the way into the ignition cylinder base or anything this is beginning to be a real bugger

sorry thanks i got it out yes you have to start at the acc position as john stated than go to the left basically making sure the pin is down what a pain in the tail bone, as others pointed out putting in a new 1 is a lot easier with the instrument cluster out on the 67 camaro
