View Full Version : Heads and cam??
deerhunter Dec 17th, 04, 07:09 AM Right now I have a 350 bored .030, 10 to 1 comp, RPM intake, 670 Street Avenger, Hedman headers, Comp roller rockers, Pertronix Flamethrower, Comp 262 Extreme Energy cam in a 68 Camaro with 4 speed and 3.73 posi. I ran it on a dyno and only had 215 HP@5300 and 270 ft/lbs@3800. This is terrible! Now I want to replace the stock 2.02 heads and cam for something reasonably priced that will give me a substantial increase in both areas. I would like to stay in the $1000 to $1500 range if possible. Hopefully someone can assist me so this car will respond a lot better on premium pump gas.
oger Dec 17th, 04, 07:36 AM Which heads do you have?
Novaguy73 Dec 17th, 04, 12:48 PM are those hp/tq figures at the rear wheels or at the crank?
deerhunter Dec 17th, 04, 02:23 PM Rear wheel and I will need to get the head numbers because the car is in storage. I do know that everything from a stock 327 bolted right up with the original brackets.
John65nova Dec 17th, 04, 04:28 PM I ran it on a dyno and only had 215 HP@5300 and 270 ft/lbs@3800. This is terrible! For RWHP numbers, I would not call that "terrible", assuming one thing: I'm guessing your heads are 76cc stock smogger 350 heads, and that your "10:1" flat-tops are actually giving you 8.5-9:1 C.R. If so, that sound pretty close to what I'd expect out of that combo... maybe 15-20 hp short, but not way off the mark.
Just my opinion.

our combo's are close, except the heads and i have a little bigger carb
pdq67 Dec 20th, 04, 02:16 PM Are you sure you are dialed in with even no more then a stock tune-up? B/c something just isn't right if it can wrap to 6,000rpm???
What springs are on the old double-humpers??

deerhunter Dec 21st, 04, 06:47 AM That's what I thought too. I have the stock fuel pump but it should be more than adequate for a 670. The springs in the distributer are the same as shipped. If I put one of the light springs in would that help the power curve start sooner? I do think I am going to an aftermarket head but haven't found what cam and head combo would be best. I don't need to go over 6000 at all if I can find something that will work from 2000 to 6000 or even start at 1500. It very well could be something so obvious that I am overlooking it too.

It only has 2500 miles on it since it was overhauled and the machine shop I use is very good. I say this because of the cracking concerns and he would definitely have told me if they were bad.
