I am adding a TH400 in place of a 4 spd manual in my 69. Classic Industries makes a TH400 crossmember for this. Do I need it? It is going behind a big block.

Yes you need it.

And make sure you have the correct big block frame mounts; drivers side taller and moves the engine 1" towards the passenger side. Otherwise, it won't line up correctly with the crossmember.

Thanks guys! That's what I wanted to know.

Jody, Yes I do have the correct big block mounts. I converted to a big block a few years ago, and heard horror stories of nothing lining up, no hood clearance. I used the big block frame mounts, new small block mounts and had no clearance problems with the headers or hood clearance. I ran 2 in Hooker headers and they cleared the steering box perfectly. I ran a Performer RPM and had plenty of clearance. I probably could have run a carb spacer even. Thanks. Jeremy

Jody, I was just thumbing through a Camaro Performers magazine the other day. Was that your Camaro in there? If I remember right that Camaro had a 468, and I thought yours had a 540 or something like that. It was VERY sweet!! It looked just like yours. Now if I could only find that DAMN magazine!!! graemlins/angry.gif I also thought I read in a post quite a while back that you sold the car. Is this correct? How can someone sell a car that nice? Don't listen to me, my 69 is in pieces with the frame and suspension out of it, no doors, quarters, fenders, inner fender wells, inner quarters. It looks like a $10 hunk of sheet metal now. It was a complete car about a month ago, with no rust on the outside what to speak of. By the time I get this Damn car that has been in the family for over 20 years put back together, I will probably want to sell it. I'll be sick of working on it!!

Thanks Jeremy,

Yes it was mine and was a 468 at the time. A month or so later I put a 540 in it as 1000 HP was too much (I felt) for a stock ZL-1 block. Didn't really want to sell but I wanted to build a new car more. Currently working on another 69 with a 1000 HP twin turbo EFI small block, T56, mini-tubs, 335/35-18's and a fair amount of suspension work. Plan on going to some track events with Charley and others from this board. Should be a lot of fun!
