Hi,All. Just looking for some opinions here.I have a car that we decided to make race only.Just for fun and low budget. We started with what we had available and are progressing.Currently working on 355 build up not sure which way to go with that yet.But for now because i have no patience we decided to throw some goodies on a 327 i had . This is it so far. 8.5 rear with spool and 4.56 , coan 350 auto w/transbrake 5500stall hotchkis uppers and lowers rear 28x9 mt slicks and the 327 with 2.08 iron eagles worked for cam crane solid 578 lift 305 dur. holley high plenum manifold 750 holley mech sec. here,s the problem engine is fresh but never thought about racing it and comp. is 9.5 to 1 this is first time with project like this. Took the car out and ran 13.050 101 mph 1.74 60 foot Car stumbled after launch which i'm told to put jet extensions in.But engine did'nt seem to except high rpm's like i thought it would after 6000 rpm's. It looks like i may have to run with this motor untill next year when i can afford to put 350 together.Car has full interior in it so i'll have to start working on that.Any help on how i can make this crazy combo work will help. I would recommend upping up the compression if you are only at 9.5:1. Eric68 just took a milder combo to the track and ran 12.6X I believe, so there are definately improvements to be made. Im sure he'lll chime in.

Yea thats kinda what i was thinking just not enough compression or cu.in. to pull it thru the traps.Just was trying to avoid tear down. That or just dial in 13.00 this year ,which friends and family seem to have problem with . It's all a good time to me being first drag car and all. Thanks for reply sik68.

Drop one of UDHarold's smaller 232 or 238 solid cams in it and you should really see a difference IF your head ports aren't too big for the little motor!!!

If they aren't, it should run like you think it should!!! As always imho...

Do some tuning. It should love running above 6000RPM.

Pdq67 Thanks for reply . The top half of motor was supposed to be going on the 350 after built with serious compression. But things just did"nt turn out that way yet. Basically this motor was an experiment.Kinda figured it would be overkill. So,I'm open for suggestions on some improvement.Cam change could be a quick fix. Could you tell me about a udharold cam rpm range etc. Thanks again

Thanks for reply oger. As far as tuning goes have tried going up in jets colder plugs & timing.Carb came with 76 pri. 80 sec. tried 80 frnt and back seemed to be too much but that was with the hot plug.Played with fuel pressure not much change. also put msn 6al and 2step.Jet sizes have me baffled at this point.up or down . Just starting on the fine tuning part.Almost like its getting too much or too little fuel from 2nd to 3rd.

Please contact Harold directly and talk to him about the rpm ranges of the two cams I mentioned.

I will say that I figure the smaller one will be a lot like a modern -097 cam which will start working close to 2,500 and go above 7 grand easy in a 327!

I do know the -097 in my junk 301 didn't start coming on until like at 3000rpm so it should come on sooner b/c of your 1/4" longer astroke

But Harold will know best..

Please tell him I sent you... pdq67

pdq67 I am glad to have found another fan of Ultradyne. I have been using Harold's cams for years and I am sort of spoiled, because I don't use anything else these days. I have five of his cams right now waiting to go. I have a SBC hydraulic roller 288/292 .530 lift on a 110, I am just itching to get it installed. It is going in my 67 Camaro. I have one of their big sticks. Solid lift SBC 308/316 .590/.595 cam. What a monster. I had it in a 327, wouldn't idle below 1500 but what a cam. Had a unique sound all of it's own. I used it on a dirt track and it would even break the tires loose at mid-track.

The best cam I ever but into a 327 was on of Ultradyne's oval track cams. It was a solid lift 280 duration .530 lift 106 LS. Used a Quadrajet carb and never have I seen a motor open up so quick. It was very agressive and wouldn't survive the street but damn what a ride.

Spike 68, I agree with pdq67, call Harold.
