I have a 69' ss Camaro, and it's mainly stock, except for intake and carb. I was wondering if I could get rid of the whole ballast resister, and put in something better, like msd 6a ignition, or anything better. Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. Iam fairly new at this.

Any kind of conventional ignition will need a ballast resistor. HEI or other electronic ingition will do away with it. However, some of the aftermarket ignitions still use a ballast resistor.
Check out Dave's Small Body HEIs (http://www.davessmallbodyheis.com) That's what I run. Stock appearance, HEI performance, fits in a 1st gen, and no funky parts to hunt down in the event of a break-down. Just about every parts store in the country will have a replacement module.

use caution if you go witha pertronix, they need a ballast resistor. I have run one for years, but the first one only ran for a few days!! ;)
I think the small body is the way to go in the long run if you have the extra $$$
