I had a 2006 SS model (up until a few months ago) and only had 1 problem with the fuel injection and 1 problem with a seat warmer going out. Chevy fixed both for free. I had a Ferd focus when they first came out and it was in the shop chronically (the reason I got the SS...)
While it isn't good to have any kind of problem or recall, I know that they built ALOT of Cobalts and they have received 1200 or so complaints. Not really that bad in the big picture. I think Toyota had nearly a million or more cars recalled for multiple problems recently...
In my way of thinking, a recall is not always a bad thing. It means the company is trying to make something right. It's when a cheap/badly produced part goes bad repeatedly and nobody will fix it under warranty that urks me!

This power steering thing happened with 2000-2005ish Malibu Maxx's too, no recall.
