I am in the process of building a 383 with AFR 195's I have decided to go with a roller cam. I have my eye on the comp cams ex282hr but I am very open to suggestions. The only limits are that the cam can not have more than a .580 lift and I want a power band that will be streetable yet produce good numbers at the track. I have a 3000 converter and 3.55 gears in the rear. The trans is a turbo 350. Vaccume is not a concern and if I need it in the future I can always get a vaccume canister. I also want a choppy pronounced idle. Also the comp ratio will be 10.5-1. Eric68 if u read this you input will be very much appericated.

What your goal? - 11s?
You should be able to make 500hp and run 11s with the 282hr, but since
you have more comp. the 288hr would be nice, and it would make more
power - mid + upper! Looks like your set up is just like Erics, so lets see
what cam he's runnin. graemlins/clonk.gif

67RS502 Uh, the only thing the same as mine is the displacement, gear ratio, and trans. graemlins/clonk.gif diff. heads, compression, etc
Anyway, I'm not really a roller cam guru so its hard for me to say what roller cam to go with. The one you are looking at looks good, although it may not give you a very radical idle if that is your goal. A step bigger might work well, but I'm not sure what your goals for this engine are. I'm biased toward the solid FT grinds personally . . .
PS. if you would consider going solid FT and want a radical idle, you ought to contact Travis and see what he is going to do with that brand new Isky he has laying around . . . I think either a Z35 or 534-A? forgot exactly which one, but it was was going to be a real barn burner if I remember. LOL

Somehow I don't think the 'pronounced choppy idle', the 3000 stall and the 3.55 gears are going to add up to big numbers at the track. Your stall speed will be down because you don't have the torque to make your converter work. You won't be able to get to your horsepower in the upper end because you run out of track about 5500 rpm, leaving at least 1000 rpm on the table.

goal would be 11's on slicks and when I get kicked off the track fo not haveing a cage then all i'll hve to do is run streets and pull a low 12 sec pass. 500 hp would be the goal but not as important as just haveing a really fast street car that will put down some good numbers at the track. I am a firm believer that the car should be able to scare you a little bit so that you will respect the power. I guess the ultimate goal would be to be able to lift the front tires off the line. I relize that alot of suspention and weight transfet goes into that but so does raw power. Thanks for the info
