View Full Version : another quarter mile question

Thanks for all the help previously, I think I'm finally beginning to understand this stuff.

My new question is regarding the trap speed measurement.

From what I understand there are 2 lights 66 feet apart that measure your speed at the end of the quarter mile.

If my trusty gtech tells me I can accelerate at .25 g's in third.

Theoretically, if I hit the first light at 90 then I will roughly hit the second light at 92.7 (assuming a constant acc of .25 g's), now the gtech will only record the speed at the end of quarter mile which would be 92.7.

Does anyone know what the track would read? Would it read the average of 90 and 92.7 or simply 90? And is the 66 foot statement accurate?

Thanks in advance,
Marc

I don't know how far the lights are apart from each other, but at a track, the computer knows how long it took you to break the first light and how long it took to break the second light. It also knows the distance between the lights. From this, it can calculate the average trap speed by dividing distance by time.
