With all the mods done below (see sig.) I got a quick T'n T pass in during scheduled December drags - alongside an 11 sec. toyota car which had to scratch

I decided to use nitrous - 150hp jets - for a 1st pass in a year (it was a bad idea) - but I have not done any engine work since my last best time in sig. below - just body and chassis strengthening and weight loss mods- so I thought the setup should still work.

I added 6* retard chip - to single stage retard box - and a 7k rpm chip for MSD limiter - all for safety

74 / 84 jets Holley 650DP with power valve delete rear metering block (thats what works - otherwise there is a flat spot when revved from idle)

The run went like this (sorry I only have half the slip so I forgot the abbreviations for the rest of the time slip!!)

RT - 1.158
60ft - 1.606
89.46
8.039
10.298
103.92
12.392

I got beat - it looked worse than it really was

I had a good launch they tell me - it felt strong to me - for some reason the engine went into limiter somewhere between 1st to 2nd shift - and it was almost as if everything stopped - at least thats what spectators say and the engine rang out like I mis-shifted

I lifted off and spent what felt like an eternity trying to look at all gauges - then when I felt and heard that the engine was still running and the temperature was good - I floored it again and then hit the nitrous button again

The engine picked up and was barking and so I tried to shift tranny as I thought it could go into limiter again (700 R4 - all manual TCI valvebody) and found I was already in 4th OD

Still with basically stopping/slowing just about 1/4 track - I still got 103mph moving off in OD

Lessons -

do not race for your 1st pass - too much tension!

do not use nitrous for a 1st comeback pass on track -too much tension!!!

a strong launch can jar your brains for a moment - it is true !!!-

I cant recall whether I shifted up or back - which could explain the limiter if I did go from 1st to neutral - I now have reverse valve body - and I do not know how and when it got into OD

also after the launch and the g's - I felt like the car had stopped about 1/4 way down the track but I was obviously still moving but could not sense it

I am reviewing it all in my head even up to now - and I have no firm memory of my movements/thoughts after the lights until I got under way again and knew that I pressed the nitrous button

any thoughts and advice on the way forward - I am keen to hear

Also the belt flew off again - so I am finished with the alternator altogther - its too annoying

I need a pulley setup for just crank and water pump/fan that can take drag strip duty - any tips ideas of what to get PLEASE ??

Yeah, you DO NOT want to hit the rev limiter when running nitrous !!!!! :D

Need to go back and make a few half track passes. Then full passes on the motor then spray.Always a good idea to make a few short passes on a new car or setup.

will do - and I am off the spray until I get some more seat time under my belt

by the way, for all those who have lived with their street & strip car - with a few passes on the track - there is a dramatic change in interior sound levels in car when you remove all interior - you actually and literally feel like you are sitting in engine bay! graemlins/thumbsup.gif but its worth it

TCI full manual valve body - reverse pattern -plus B&M megashifter (82-92 camaro console style) for 4 speed OD tranny - you just pull pin so it can ratchet for OD 4 gear tranny
