I removed and stored my original muncie shifter, and replaced with the right hurst shifter and installation kit(according to Mr.Gasket)for performance.After the installation the shifter almost rubs on the console plate in 3rd and 4th gears. 1st Gear rubs on the top. I like to keep the car factory original w/cutting the console plate. ormoving the console and reattached. Any suggestions? 67RSSS BB.

What was the # for installation kit? Is it for a Muncie Tranny? Are you using the adapter plate that uses the U bolt around tailshaft?

The application was for the Muncie tranny.I'm not sure about the UBolt around the tailshaft. I had someone else install the shifter. Would the U-Bolt make the difference?????

The 67s used the U bolt mount for the shifter. 68 & 69 used another adapter. Look under the car and see if it has a steel plate that bolts between the tranny mount and the crossmember, and uses a U bolt that goes around tailshaft. The shifter bolts to the steel adapter. It does not bolt to the tranny like other shifters. This is what you need to use to make the shifter work properly.

My shifter rubs also with the u-bolt in place. Nothing to annoying but still rubs. Sonny :(

Sonny, depending which gears are rubbing. You can loosen both bolts that hold the shifter to adapter plate. Use the top bolt as pivot point. The bottom bolt will move in a slot forwards ar backwards. Doing this you will have to remove shift rods from shifter. Then adjust them in the neutral position using the 1/4" aligment tool. U can use a 1/4" drill bit.

The U bolt that goes around tailshaft was placed there. Could it be the installation was not aligned right???????? the shifter is about 1/8th near the console plate and rubbs against it!!

Did Hurst make a replacement shifter to replace the original Muncie with console?? I used the right shifter and installation kit. I tried every thing.?????

I have a 67 RS/SS with the factory M20 trans,factory console. Using hurst competition plus shifter( part# 391-4339) and install kit (part# 373 4529)which is the u-bolt mount kit. Everything works fine, no rubbing whatsoever.If parts are right you should get it to work.
