I currently have a 69 camaro with a stock 350, stock intake, and 4brl Quadrajet carb. If I were to upgrade to a holley or edelbrock carb, would I have to change my intake manifold?

What kind of carb is recommended?
What cfm?

Thanks!

Stick with the QJet, just make sure it's the correct unit for your car.

FYI, Edelbrock makes a Quadrajet Adapter Plate Adapter for mounting Edelbrock square-bore carbs to stock Quadrajet manifolds. Part #2696

X2 on keeping your stock intake and q-jet. Cliff's Quadrajets can rebuild your stock carb for more performance. He has written a book on doing the mods too.

my buddy offered me an edelbrock performance series 600 cfm for $50 in good working condition...will i need an adapter? should it be better than the quadrajet? thanks

The edelbrock isn't much better than the q-jet.
Stick with the q-jet if the app. is mostly stock.
The edelborck is a reliable carb but not that much greater in performance, you rarely see a high perf/drag car, or dragster with an edelbrock... there must be a reason.
just my $.02 and i've dealt with both.

Your Quadrajet is a 750 cfm carburetor. The edelbrock is only a 600 cfm. I think you will have better street performance with a Quadrajet, because of the small primaries and better WOT because of the secondaries being so big ! Normally a 750 cfm carb would be too big for your engine, but not with a Quadrajet !

I'll agree that the Qjet is the way to go. But, if you had your heart set on a Holley for whatever reason, the 4175 series is a spreadbore vacuum secondary carburetor. It is a direct bolt on swap for the Qjet or Ebrock. No adaptors or manifold change necessary.

Personally, I wouldn't recomend it but i am sure there are Holley guys that would! It seems that Qjet vs Holley is a rivalry as old as Ford vs Chevy!!

Ok...I found a rebuilt quadrajet for $65 which appears reasonable. I don't know the specs. Do you think it will be an easy swap if I get it?

King, are you having problems with the Qjet on the car now?

Swapping the carbs is simple. Tuning it for your engine may take a little more work. Personally, if I were having carb issues, I would repair the one I already have instead of bolting on an unknown carb.
