i am about to buy a cam and lifter kit from summit.i don't know alot about them but i talked with a rep and was advised that the biggest i should go with is:
duration @.050
204intake 214 exhaust
lift
intake.420exh.442
lobeseperation
112degrees
this is the summit kit
i have the stock 68 327 powerglide tranny
i put a intake and 4barrel carb on it.
anyway is this the biggest i can go without changing the converter?

hey 68dreams,
what compression are you at?
i run that same cam on a 114 lsa in a mild 9:1 350. it pulls 16-17 vaccuum at 800 rpm idle. smooth idle with a slight lope.(112lsa plus less cubes may give you a little more lump)
its a good daily driver cam. we've put 125K miles on the 350 with that cam. has lots of low end.
we have a stock 1600 stall converter in the 700 tranny behind it that worked out great.
i would say it pulls from idle-5000 in my 350.
we also got a best of 24 mpg with this engine/trans combo in a 62 nova.
i would think you could maybe go a step larger, but with low compression, more duration isn't your friend.
just my experience....

good luck
kip

You might consider a Crane 266 cam, (266/210), but no bigger than a CC268HE, (268/218)!! And I bet it, (268HE), is even a schosh too big???

The aforementioned "Performer" cam, (204/214), is a dandy in a stock engine like yours!!!
