I know this topic has been discussed a lot, but I really need some questions answered. I recently bought an LT1 block that the casting numbers said was out of a '94 Camaro. It has already been magnafluxed, overbored (+.030), etc. The rotating assembly I will be using for it consists of a Scat steel stroker crank (bringing displacement to 383), forged 5.7" rods and flat top JE forged pistons. The machinist includes hydraulic roller cam and timing chain in his $2700 price tag for this short block. I am going to keep this carbureted and hook it up to an old style 10-spline input shaft M-21. My questions are:
Which AFR heads do I choose? Do I have to choose the more expensive LT4 heads over the regular 195cc heads because of the headbolt and valvetrain alignment?
The Camaro this block came out of was originally equipped with distributorless omni-spark ignition. Is there a hole to the rear of the block where I can drop in my HEI distributor?
Also, is there a boss on the side of the block that has the provision of a mechanical (cam-driven) fuel pump?
I believe the Scat crank can be internally balanced (I plan on using a fluidampr). So can I keep my old-style 10.4 inch steel flywheel with a muncie 4-spd and a 3 month old centerforce clutch? Will the flywheel bolt holes on the crank line up? Will I have to use a stock LT1 oil pan? Will I have to use a transmission mounted starter or a block mounted starter?
Also, please let me know of anything else important I need to know before I swap a late block for an early model block in my 67 camaro. Thanks
