prostreet69camaro Mar 16th, 10, 06:35 PM Mine is mounted off a 1" aluminum flat bar. The flat bar is mounted to the dash and lays on top of the dash pad.

68rs406 Mar 16th, 10, 06:46 PM I like the stealth look, and if you have a shift lite it works great that way. Mine is mounted so I can still see the turn indicator and gauge, just barely.

RichSchmidt Mar 16th, 10, 06:50 PM I know it's not a Camaro, but close enuff.30 or so years ago a past owner drilled holes in a mint dashpad to mount a cheeszy little tach.I stll use those holes today.I have had the tach both on top of and under the dash pad,and under is better. This position is perect for a race car.It isnt in my line of sight for the tree,or my opponent, and the shift light is right in my peripheral vision so I can see it while focusing on the race I do however cover the light with my hand when turnig it on since I feel that it burns a blind spot in my eyes which can effect how I see the tree at night.I actually dissassembled my dash and painted the factory guage bezels and pointers to match my aftermarket guages

I just drilled and tapped into the surround for two short M6 button heads and used Loctite. I wouldn't hang off of it but it's fairly secure. Coating the threads with JB-Weld would be even better but only if you planned on never removing it without some damage.
You can find some decent deals on AutoMeter on eBay if you search by part number. I saved $100 over Summit just on my wideband AFR gauge kit and probably $30 on the tach when you factor in shipping.

Unreal Mar 17th, 10, 04:20 PM To me, the coolest tach EVER, is the Pontiac hood tach.

Just put a large band clamp on the column and put some shrink tube around it to conceal it a bit.
ohsurfrider Mar 20th, 10, 07:40 PM how did you mount it to you column?
I just used a hose clamp. I think I'll paint the clamp black to make it blend in better.
Z15CAM Mar 20th, 10, 08:28 PM Factory Dashes usually place the Tach to the Right of Center in the Main Instrument Cluster but I personally prefer the Tach mounted on the Dash Pad just to the right of the Steering Wheel as you can see both the Road and Tach at the same time. My most valuable Instrument is a Manual Oil Pressure Gauge which should be mounted in the Top region of the Dash just under the Tach.
Volvo use to mount a Dash Mounted Tach with their Oil BAR Gauge in this manner and you could not beat the arrangement for Road Rallying as they where always in your line of sight.
vincevs Mar 22nd, 10, 10:16 AM When you sit in the drivers seat I can see the fuel guage just over the top of my tach. Since this photo I have fixed the open fuel circuit. What I really need is something better than a hose clamp... I used it becuase I had one handy. I have it out again and I will be using shrink tube on the wires and I am looking for a hose clamp alternative. I was thinking about a 1/2 inch black zip tie.

I've got a phantom setup like Keypilot does now, with the 5" mechanical speedo on the left and the 5" tach on the right. I don't have a picture right now.
