Hello all,
Next weekend I'm heading off to Harry's you pull it. I am looking to pickup a complete 454 with fuel injection, computer and wiring harness. I am planning a complete rebuild and to swap out my existing 327 from my 67 conv. I would like some advice on what are the most favorable donors to look for. I suspect I will wind up looking at late model trucks. Any advice is welcomed.
Thanks

The late model 3/4 ton and 1 ton Chevy/GMC pick-ups came with 454s. They come fuel injected from 88-present. But from 88-95 they were TBI (throttle body injection-2 injectors), which isn't the greatest for perfromance mods. Fortunately Edelbrock, Holley and Accel make hi-po TBI setups. tongue.gif 96-99(?) the 454 had a vortec design, and performed much better in stock form. They had 8 injectors, and OBDII...so if you go with one of these, get the MAF sensor and all the O2 sensors (4 I think).
In 2000-present they came out with a vortec 8100, which is like a 496 or 500 or something. I think its based off the LS1 design, at least the 4800 and 5300 are. ;)
Good luck hunting and I hope this helps. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

The Vortec 8100 is a tall deck motor so may cause header problems... And yes it is a 496 and has a 4.37" stroke...
Do you think you can find an old mid '70's/'80's, P/U with a 454 in it for like cheap and use it as a core motor???
One should have decent heads unless you find a later peanut port headed motor... pdq67
