Can someone tell me if this is a open or closed chamber head and tell me about the head? The casting # 3964290. The chevy-camaro site lists this casting number at 100.9 cc closed chamber heads but some of the big block books show a similar picture and call it open chamber. The reason I need to know is that I bought Keith Black KB160 pistons for a 402 build and want to make sure I can use these heads or pistons? Thanks for any help.

The 290 casting is a semi-closed chamber. Any closed chamber piston will work. Now if you have a open chamber piston, thats a different story. If its a big dome OC piston, it will hit the chamber.

You made my day! I'm new to all this big block stuff and I was worried that I just bought the wrong head/piston combo. The KB160 pistons I have are for closed chambers so I should be ok. Thanks for your quick response, it is appreciated.
